Vladimir Smicer believes Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard can still take the helm at Anfield<\/a>. The Champions League-winning midfielder says that time is on the iconic captain’s side, and if he tastes success with another club, the door to the Reds is always open.<\/p>\n

The 45-year-old has been out of management since January, when his 18-month tenure with Al-Ettifaq came to an end. Since then, Gerrard has been named as a contender in most managerial vacancies, including the likes of Birmingham and former club Rangers, where he won the Scottish Premiership.<\/p>\n

Gerrard looked destined to continue his trajectory to the Anfield hotseat after ending Celtic’s stranglehold north of the border and took his first Premier League<\/a> managerial role with Aston Villa, but his time came to an end just shy of 12 months.<\/p>\n

But Smicer, speaking to Boyle Sports, who offer the latest football odds<\/a>, believes: \u201cIt’s important that if you sign for a club, you need to know where you want to go and what the club’s ambitions are.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s not good to sign for a club that is financially struggling and has no future. Of course, Steven Gerrard<\/a> has been a fantastic player, one of the best players I played with.<\/p>\n

“But as a manager, as I said, he’s still very young. His name is big in England, Europe, and world football, Stevie is fantastic.<\/p>\n

“I know his mentality, he’s a winner. He definitely wants to go to a club where he feels he has a chance to win games, be a strong team, and build something.<\/p>\n

“So if they show him plans for the future and he feels it’s achievable, it’s interesting for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it must have a future, it must have ambition. People sometimes ask me if he can one day be the manager of Liverpool. And I’m saying yes, I think one day Stevie G can be a manager of Liverpool.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe would be a very good manager of Liverpool in my opinion. But we’ll see in the future. He needs to have some success with a team.<\/p>\n

\u201cCould it be Birmingham or Wrexham, maybe.
