{"id":470468,"date":"2025-10-03T07:00:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T07:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/470468\/"},"modified":"2025-10-03T07:00:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-03T07:00:13","slug":"russia-targeting-uk-satellites-on-weekly-basis-uk-space-command-boss-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/470468\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia targeting UK satellites on \u2018weekly\u2019 basis, UK Space Command boss says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Speaking to the BBC, Major General Paul Tedman said Russian forces are actively trying to disrupt UK-based military activities \u201cweekly\u201d and are closely monitoring the country\u2019s space assets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re seeing our satellites being jammed by the Russians on a reasonably persistent basis,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The UK operates approximately six dedicated military satellites for communications and surveillance, which Maj Gen Tedman said were equipped with counter-jamming technology.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThey\u2019ve got payloads on board that can see our satellites and are trying to collect information from them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The threat of space-based interference is not limited to the UK.<\/p>\n<p>In September, German defence minister Boris Pistorius revealed that Russia had been tracking two Intelsat satellites used by the German military.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey can jam, blind, manipulate, or kinetically disrupt satellites,\u201d he said at a space conference in Berlin.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"525\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This image, from our Joint Commercial Operations team, shows the \ud83c\uddec\ud83c\udde7 &amp; \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 satellites in the 1st UK-US space operation.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/US_SpaceCom?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@US_SpaceCom<\/a>&#8216;s satellite moved near to SKYNET 5A, to make sure SKYNET 5A was operating as intended.
