Recognising iconic figures from history, these celebrate \u201cthe link between significant figures of the past and the buildings in which they lived and worked.\u201d And a brand new one is set to be unveiled next week, <strong>honouring acting legend Audrey Hepburn.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The new London Blue Plaque will go up next week, on<strong> Tuesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/secretldn.com\/things-to-do-london-october\/\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\" class=\"shortcode-outbound-link\" data-has-ga=\"true\" data-ga-type=\"click\" data-label=\"https:\/\/secretldn.com\/things-to-do-london-october\/\" data-action=\"text_cta_1\" data-category=\"click_internal\">October 7<\/a><\/strong>, on Mayfair\u2019s South Audley Street. The plaque will mark where Hepburn lived in the early days of her acting career. At the time, <strong>Hepburn lived in a flat at 65 South Audley Street<\/strong>, during which time she transitioned from her aspirations of becoming a ballerina to pursuing acting.<\/p>\n<p>It was during her time in London that Audrey Hepburn took to the <a href=\"https:\/\/secretldn.com\/london-theatre-shows\/\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\" class=\"shortcode-outbound-link\" data-has-ga=\"true\" data-ga-type=\"click\" data-label=\"https:\/\/secretldn.com\/london-theatre-shows\/\" data-action=\"text_cta_2\" data-category=\"click_internal\">West End stage<\/a>, from<strong> humble beginnings as a chaoir girl on the West End in High Button Shoes at the London Hippodrome<\/strong>. But we can probably fairly accurately predict that the street is about to get a whole lot busier than usual, as fans of the silver screen star flock to view the new blue plaque.<\/p>\n<p>Hepburn\u2019s Blue Plaque joins an existing one honouring<strong> Constance Spry<\/strong>, an author, educator, and florist, whose famed flower shop was situated at Number 64 South Audley Street in the heart of Mayfair for over 25 years.<\/p>\n<p>But Audrey Hepburn isn\u2019t the only new Blue Plaque going up this year. This year, the <strong>English Heritage\u2019s London Blue Plaques<\/strong> scheme is also recognising several other iconic cultural figures. Pending approval from the property owners, Blue Plaques will also honour the following people this year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Marc Bolan<\/strong> (1947\u20131977): The frontman of T. Rex and a huge figure in the Glam Rock movement of the 1970s<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alicia Markova<\/strong> (1910\u20132004): \u201cOne of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Una Marson<\/strong> (1905-1965): Jamaican poet, playwright, broadcaster, and campaigner for racial and gender equality<\/li>\n<li><strong>Barbara Pym<\/strong> (1913\u20131980): British novelist, best known for \u2018Some Tame Gazelle\u2019 <\/li>\n<li><strong>Graham Sutherland<\/strong> (1903\u20131980): \u201cOne of the most significant British artists of the 20th century\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Audrey Hepburn blue plaque will go up on South Audley Street in Mayfair.
