{"id":471659,"date":"2025-10-03T17:50:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T17:50:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/471659\/"},"modified":"2025-10-03T17:50:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-03T17:50:11","slug":"eu-imposes-limits-on-pfas-chemicals-in-fire-fighting-foams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/471659\/","title":{"rendered":"EU imposes limits on PFAS chemicals in fire-fighting foams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brussels \u2013 Changes coming for EU fire-fighting systems.\u00a0The European Commission has adopted new <strong>measures restricting the use of PFAS (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in foams<\/strong> used\u00a0for fire extinguishing, under the<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/ALL\/?uri=celex%3A32006R1907\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0REACH regulation<\/a>, the EU chemicals legislation.\u00a0The restriction marks \u201can important step\u201d towards the Commission\u2019s goal of minimising PFAS emissions,\u00a0the EU executive\u00a0emphasises. With\u00a0<strong>these restrictions, it estimates cutting the emissions and production of about 470 tonnes of this type of chemical<\/strong>, along\u00a0with the associated risks to the environment, soil, and water.<\/p>\n<p>This restriction <strong>will formally take effect 20 days after publication in the Official Journal<\/strong>.
