Pro-Palestine protests in Manchester city centre on Thursday, October 2, hours after the Manchester terror attack<\/p>\n

Demonstrations in Manchester supporting Palestine will go ahead this weekend, according to organisers, days after the tragic synagogue terror attack.<\/p>\n

Greater Manchester Friends of Palestine say that a pro-Palestine march set to take place in Manchester city centre<\/a> at noon tomorrow will still be taking place.<\/p>\n

It follows the Home Secretary slamming people who went on a pro-Palestine marches<\/a> just hours after the terror attack outside the Heaton Park<\/a> synagogue as ‘un-British’.<\/p>\n

The Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, called for any further protests to be cancelled.<\/a><\/p>\n

The MP for Crumpsall has now hit out at the protests, saying: “If organisers have the humanity they claim to have, they would call it off.”<\/p>\n

Two people were killed after a man, later named by police as Jahid Al-Shamie<\/a>, carried out a sickening attack outside Heaton Park synagogue in Crumpsall yesterday morning (October 2).<\/p>\n

The victims have been named as Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz,<\/a> 66, who both lived in the Crumpsall area.<\/p>\n

The attack took place as dozens gathered at the synagogue to celebrate Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.<\/p>\n

This afternoon, the organisers of a demonstration planned to happen tomorrow (Saturday, October 4) have told the Manchester Evening News it will go ahead.<\/p>\n

The protest is to mark \u2018two years of genocide in Gaza\u2019, according to an advertisement of the event.<\/p>\n

Greater Manchester Friends of Palestine said that \u2018the British media is repeatedly naming the three victims in Crumpsall yesterday and people will be reading the names of the Palestinians murdered by Israel all over the country tomorrow\u2019.<\/p>\n

However, there is opposition to the action in Manchester.<\/p>\n

The MP for Crumpsall, Graham Stringer, told the Local Democracy Reporting Service he \u2018does not think the demonstrations should take place\u2019.<\/p>\n

The Labour<\/a> politician added: \u201cIf organisers have the humanity they claim to have, they would call it off.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Jewish community has predicted something like this [attack] would happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey feel that they have not had enough moral and practical support and it\u2019s up to the government and all people of goodwill to ensure that they have both the moral support and practical support.\u201d<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Friends of Palestine shared: \u201cThe demonstrations for Gaza have been taking place every week in the city centres of Manchester and Salford<\/a> during two years of Israel’s onslaught on the Palestinians.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has been described as a genocide by the United Nations, Amnesty International and the International Criminal Court.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis genocide is \u2018still going ahead\u2019 \u2013 and as long as it does, the protests against it will do likewise.<\/p>\n

“All these two years of Manchester’s demonstrations of support for Palestine do not seem to have been reported by the \u2018mainstream\u2019 media.<\/p>\n

\u201cHundreds more Palestinians have been killed this week including scores of children and at least 20000 Palestinian children have been murdered by Israel overall.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Israelis are raining down terror in Gaza and the West Bank – and have been bombing Syria, Lebanon, Yemen (with UK help).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will never turn our back on the Palestinian victims of genocide and 77 years of Israel’s ethnic cleansing of Palestine.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone should be out trying to stop these crimes against humanity being televised every day.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn honour of the over 20,000 children killed on Gaza, our demonstration will finish at the Know Their Names event organised by Friends of Al Aqsa and other groups in Manchester, where the names of children will be read out in commemoration of their lives, they are not numbers nor statistics, but are entire lives and dreams and future that Palestine has lost.<\/p>\n

MP Graham Stringer has hit out at the protesters in the wake of the horrific terror attack<\/p>\n

A \u2018Manchester stands with Israel\u2019 march is also scheduled for Sunday.<\/p>\n

Both marches are set to take place during Storm Amy. The Met Office has issued an amber weather<\/a> warning for most of the UK, predicting 60mph winds.<\/p>\n

On the evening of the attack, a number of pro-Palestine marches took place throughout the country, including in Manchester, where a number of activists took to the city centre streets to demonstrate against the Israeli attacks in Gaza.<\/p>\n

Forty people were arrested in pro-Palestine protests in the UK overnight on Thursday, including on suspicion of assaulting police, the Home Secretary said on Friday.<\/p>\n

Shabana Mahmood said she was \u201cdisappointed\u201d to see pro-Palestine marches go ahead hours after the atrocity.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Sky News, Ms Mahmood said: \u201cI was very disappointed to see those protests go ahead last night.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that behaviour is fundamentally un-British. I think it\u2019s dishonourable. I would have wanted those individuals to just take a step back.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe issues that are driving those protests have been going on now for some time; they don\u2019t look like they\u2019re going to come to an end any day soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey could have stepped back and just given a community that has suffered deep loss just a day or two to process what has happened and to carry on with the grieving process.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Mahmood added: \u201cWe will not tolerate that behaviour.
