A Huyton takeaway owner was taken to court and ordered to pay more than \u00a34,000 in costs and fines after inspectors found evidence of \u2018rat activity\u2019 in the restaurant\u2019s kitchen.<\/p>\n
Mei Ling Wang of Moscow Drive, Liverpool, is the director of a company which previously operated Star Noodle in Huyton<\/a> Village, and she pleaded guilty at Liverpool Magistrates Court yesterday (October 2) to six charges of breaching food safety regulations through her negligence as a company director. Star Noodle changed ownership in July 2025 and the new owners are not linked to the prosecution.<\/p>\n According to Knowsley<\/a> Council, officers from its environmental health service visited Star Noodle on November 20, 2024.<\/p>\n They found that the premises and equipment were \u2018very dirty\u2019 and there was \u2018evidence of rat activity\u2019 in the kitchen and storage rooms. The business had also failed to put in place a system to manage food safety.<\/p>\n At the time, the owner of the takeaway voluntarily agreed to close the shop until officers were satisfied that it no longer posed a risk to health.<\/p>\n An investigation carried out by environmental health officers found that inadequate precautions had been put in place to control pests and that the building had not been maintained in a way that \u2018would prevent rodents from entering the takeaway\u2019.<\/p>\n As a result of the successful prosecution, Ms Wang was fined \u00a31,382 \u2013 reduced to \u00a3983 due a guilty plea \u2013 and was ordered to pay \u00a32,744.60 towards the council\u2019s costs.<\/p>\n Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said \u201cWe will continue to identify and take action against any businesses who breaches food safety legislation.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s there to protect the public and it\u2019s our responsibility to enforce it.\u201d<\/p>\n For the latest news and breaking news visit liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news<\/a><\/p>\n Get all the big headlines, pictures, analysis, opinion and video on the stories that matter to you.<\/p>\n Follow us on Twitter<\/a> @LivECHONews<\/a> – the official Liverpool ECHO Twitter account – real news in real time.<\/p>\n
