A MAN has been shot dead in the upmarket Costa del Sol resort of Puerto Banus in front of shocked British and Irish holidaymakers.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old victim was gunned down from close range in broad daylight on a cafe terrace after being caught unawares as he was smoking a cigarette and having a mobile phone conversation.<\/p>\n

Footage from CCTV cameras is believed to show the gunman with a baseball cap on but disguised as a tourist, approaching his target and opening fire and continuing to shoot him as he lay on the ground.<\/p>\n

The injured man was rushed to the nearby Costa del Sol Hospital but died there despite the efforts of medics to save his life.<\/p>\n

Police confirmed this evening they had made an arrest.<\/p>\n

A spokesman for the National Police in Malaga, which covers the Marbella area where the savage assassination occurred, said: \u201cWe can confirm a 38-year-old man has been arrested over the fatal shooting of another man in Puerto Banus.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe investigation is ongoing and we cannot offer any more details at this stage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cops said they couldn\u2019t comment on the nationalities of the victim or the man held.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened just after 1.30pm local time today, when Puerto Banus was thronged with tourists including golfers who had flown from the UK to the Costa del Sol to play at the courses the coast is famous for and were out for lunch.<\/p>\n

The killer is believed to have got out of a car before targeting his victim.<\/p>\n

Police confirmed the victim had died around 8.15pm local time today, following earlier reports he had been shot half a dozen times but was still alive and in hospital.<\/p>\n

Shootings in Puerto Ban\u00fas and surrounding areas over the past few summers have led to high-profile police operations in the area which have included raids on upmarket clubs, following criticism from locals the port area has become like the ‘Wild West.’<\/p>\n
