{"id":472201,"date":"2025-10-03T22:53:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T22:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/472201\/"},"modified":"2025-10-03T22:53:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-03T22:53:12","slug":"oq-technology-expands-satellite-iot-services-to-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/472201\/","title":{"rendered":"OQ Technology expands satellite IoT services to Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TAMPA, Fla. \u2014 OQ Technology has expanded its satellite connectivity services for remote Internet of Things (IoT) devices to Australia, the Luxembourg-based low Earth orbit (LEO) operator announced Sept. 30.<\/p>\n<p>The company has also opened an office in the country after securing a license to use S-band spectrum for non-terrestrial 5G IoT services from its constellation of 10 small satellites, founder and CEO Omar Qaise told SpaceNews.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian approval follows the launch of OQ Technology\u2019s LEO services in \u201ccountries such as Saudi Arabia, Rwanda, Nigeria and many more,\u201d Qaise said via email.<\/p>\n<p>Qaise pointed to soaring demand for space-based connectivity in the oil and gas, agriculture and mining sectors in particular, where terrestrial coverage is often limited, alongside rising needs from government and logistics customers.<\/p>\n<p>He said OQ Technology delivers services through a mix of its own licensed spectrum and more than 20 roaming agreements with terrestrial telcos worldwide.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dutch telco KPN is the latest telco to announce an agreement with OQ Technology, adding the venture to its roster of space-based partners to enable IoT coverage across land and sea.<\/p>\n<p>Enterprise customers include Aramco, Saudi Arabia\u2019s state-owned oil and gas giant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>March toward direct-to-device services<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, OQ Technology <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/oq-technology-gets-eu-funds-to-accelerate-direct-to-smartphone-efforts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">secured funds from a European Union-backed accelerator<\/a> to help enable direct-to-device (D2D) connectivity from space to mass-market smartphones.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Qaise said the operator aims to launch a D2D text messaging service by the end of 2026, joining a market currently dominated by U.S.-based players such as SpaceX.<\/p>\n<p>He said \u201cbeing a European LEO operator with NTN IoT and D2D capability and standardized spectrum, [OQ Technology] can be the European sovereign LEO D2D operator [unlike] other players.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>OQ Technology ultimately plans to operate a constellation of 82 satellites in LEO to provide global 5G IoT and D2D services at scale.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tRelated<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"TAMPA, Fla. \u2014 OQ Technology has expanded its satellite connectivity services for remote Internet of Things (IoT) devices&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":472202,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3844],"tags":[186,41493,16103,157128,70,86186,413,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-472201","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-space","8":"tag-australia","9":"tag-direct-to-device","10":"tag-iot","11":"tag-oq-technology","12":"tag-science","13":"tag-sn","14":"tag-space","15":"tag-uk","16":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/115312695984019963","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/472201","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=472201"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/472201\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/472202"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=472201"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=472201"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=472201"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
