Open after his opponent, Lorenzo Musetti, was forced to retire due to injury. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tien had fought back against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/lorenzo-musetti\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Musetti<\/a> to bring the quarterfinal match to a decisive third set before the Italian withdrew from the contest at 3-0 in the third, becoming the latest addition to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/the-china-open-suffers-disastrous-day-midway-through-the-tournament-as-fans-seriously-lose-out\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the long injury list in Beijing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With the result, the 19-year-old will become the number one-ranked teenager on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP<\/a> Tour, surpassing his Next Gen ATP Finals conqueror, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/joao-fonseca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joao Fonseca<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He has also now achieved an impressive feat that only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jannik Sinner<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> can beat.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" 2025, tallying a strike rate of 5-2 against the world\u2019s very best. <\/p>\n<p>The young American has earned victories over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/daniil-medvedev\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniil Medvedev<\/a>, Alexander Zverev, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/ben-shelton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ben Shelton<\/a>, Andrey Rublev and now Lorenzo Musetti this season. <\/p>\n<p>Only the top two-ranked players on the planet, Sinner and Alcaraz, have amassed more top ten wins than Tien. <\/p>\n<p>He is also now just the second player ever to reach the semifinals in Beijing before turning 20, following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/rafael-nadal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rafael Nadal<\/a>, who did so in 2005. <\/p>\n<p>Learner Tien\u2019s semifinal opponent at the China Open<\/p>\n<p>Tien\u2019s semifinal opponent comes in the form of Medvedev, against whom he holds a winning record after their first and only tour-level meeting at the Australian Open earlier this year. <\/p>\n<p>After coming through qualifying in Melbourne, he beat Camilo Ugo Carabelli in the first round to set up a clash with the Russian in round two. <\/p>\n<p>Their bout went to a fifth and final set, which Tien ultimately clinched in a tiebreak before going on to reach the fourth round in his debut campaign at the Australian Open. <\/p>\n<p>The two will now face off for a place in the final of the China Open, with the winner set to go toe-to-toe with either Sinner or Alex de Minaur for the
