Love Island star and born-again Christian\u00a0Katie Salmon<\/a>\u00a0has avoided jail after being found guilty of attacking a romantic rival.<\/p>\n

The mother-of-one, who starred in the 2016 series of the\u00a0ITV<\/a> dating show, broke her silence on the sentencing in an emotional video in which she\u00a0fought back tears.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Katie, 29, using her real surname Humphreys at Leicester Crown Court, was found guilty of assault on a person causing actual bodily harm.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In an attack that took place in Kettering, Katie kicked and punched love rival Jyssica Memory after discovering she had been in a secret relationship with her partner.<\/p>\n

Katie’s boyfriend Anthony Kelly is said to have promised Jyssica a new life in\u00a0Thaila<\/a>nd before she was instead ‘ambushed’ by Anthony and Katie.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The mother-of-one, who starred in the 2016 series of the ITV dating show (Pictured), appeared at Leicester Crown Court earlier this month where she was found guilty of assault on a person causing actual bodily harm<\/p>\n

After being found guilty of the attack, Katie – who said she became a Christian after the incident – narrowly avoided jail and instead received an 18 months prison\u00a0sentence suspended for two years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In July, the\u00a0Northamptonshire Telegraph<\/a>\u00a0reported Katie attacked Jyssica, hitting her with a hairdryer and a stiletto shoe, according to one witness, and punching and kicking her ‘seven to ten times’.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Parts of the shocking incident were videoed as the jury watched the contents of the victim’s suitcase strewn around.\u00a0The victim\u00a0was left with a clump of hair missing, a lump on her head and two blackened eyes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Daily Mail contacted Katie’s representatives for comment at the time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Taking to Instagram over the weekend, Katie broke her silence on the conviction and the fear of being sent to jail and separated from her daughter – and claimed she was ‘failed by the system’.<\/p>\n

She said: ‘My past caught up with me and I’ve had to learn to take accountability and face the repercussions and I had to say goodbye to my little girl not knowing if I was going to see her again or how long it was going to be until I seen her again and that was the hardest thing that I’ve ever had to do.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘Even if you want to judge me by them things and you want to unfollow me or you don’t want to be part of my journey anymore then that’s absolutely fine you’re entitled to do that.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Katie reportedly kicked and punched Jyssica who’d been in a secret relationship with her partner after he lured her there on the promise of a new life in Thailand<\/p>\n

‘But if you know me, if you can feel my spirit, if you can feel my heart and who I really am then I’m asking you now to support me because this time in my life I could do with support because anybody that knows me, anybody that’s ever met me, knows who I really am.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘So if you are praying for my downfall I want you to know that this isn’t the end of me. This is only the beginning. Jesus is restoring what is stolen from me. He is healing what has been broken in me.’<\/p>\n

In the comments of the video, Katie added: ‘I don\u2019t blame anyone, and I don\u2019t see myself as a victim or an angel. I am a sinner.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘I am someone who was broken, who made choices I regret, and who was left to pick up the pieces by the one who was supposed to love me the father of my child. He is no longer alive, and maybe that\u2019s why I feel I was punished so harshly and silenced from sharing my side of the story.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘Nobody was innocent in this situation, but the effects of the man I once loved and who I share a daughter with rippled through me and everyone involved. There was so much more to the story that I wasn\u2019t able to share.’<\/p>\n

The emotional video was captioned: ‘This has been one of the hardest posts I\u2019ve ever had to write.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After being found guilty of the attack, Katie – who said she became a Christian after the incident – narrowly avoided jail (Seen on Love Island)<\/p>\n

‘For the past two months, I\u2019ve been navigating something very heavy. I was charged over a situation that happened more than two years ago one I\u2019m not able to speak about yet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘But one day I know people will understand the journey I\u2019ve been through and the scars I\u2019m healing from.’<\/p>\n

Katie shot to fame during the second season of Love Island and made history as one half of the series’ first same sex couple with the late Sophie Gradon\u00a0eventually came fourth with co-star Adam Maxted.<\/p>\n

At the beginning of the year Katie\u00a0broke her silence after the tragic death of her ex fianc\u00e9 and father of her daughter in a heartfelt Instagram post.<\/p>\n

She\u00a0announced Harry sadly passed away in December 2024<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0paid tribute after taking the time to ‘re align, grieve and be present’ with her toddler over the festive period.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She wrote: ‘Happy new year to all. I’ve taken some time of [sic] social to just re align as well as grieve and just be present with my daughter and family.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘The year ended with sad news but I have every faith this year is the year for all answered prayers and healings.<\/p>\n

‘I’m always shocked at how I manage to get through the things I do and that’s because of God.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘Thank you for supporting me and I can’t wait to get back to creating real content for you all that’s authentic to me and my life. God bless you all let’s make 2025 the best yet.’\u00a0<\/p>\n

At the time of his death, Katie wrote: ‘Trying to navigate this pain. The highest highs and the lowest lows with you.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘It’s so sad to know you’ll never see what a beautiful little girl she is or who she will become. I hope your soul finds peace Harry [heartbreak emoji].’<\/p>\n

Katie\u00a0split from Harry<\/a>\u00a0just six months after the birth of their first child, in September 2022.<\/p>\n
