A lengthy court case followed, which concluded with the FTC losing and the acquisition going ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Khan became an increasingly divisive figure during the process, with some vocal fans urging her to step aside and allow the transaction to take place.<\/p>\n<p>Now, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/news\/2025\/10\/ps-plus-looks-better-than-ever-after-new-xbox-game-pass-price-rises\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in the aftermath of 50% price hikes<\/a> to subscription service <a href=\"http:\/\/www.purexbox.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Game Pass<\/strong><\/a>, Khan is having the last laugh.<\/p>\n<p>Writing on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/linamkhan\/status\/1974192096841265511\">X<\/a> (or <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/linamkhan\/status\/1974192096841265511\">Twitter<\/a>) she said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cMicrosoft\u2019s acquisition of Activision has been followed by significant price hikes and layoffs, harming both gamers and developers.<\/p>\n<p>As we\u2019ve seen across sectors, increasing market consolidation and increasing prices often go hand-in-hand.<\/p>\n<p>As dominant firms become too-big-to-care, they can make things worse for their customers without having to worry about the consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In the aftermath of the acquisition, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/news\/2025\/07\/mass-xbox-layoffs-begin-everwild-and-perfect-dark-both-cancelled\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft has laid off thousands of employees<\/a> across Xbox and its pursuit for profitability has seen it significantly ramp up the price of Game Pass and water down its services.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/news\/2025\/10\/xbox-squandered-over-usd300-million-putting-call-of-duty-in-game-pass\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Earlier today<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-10-03\/xbox-s-game-pass-hike-shows-cost-of-lost-call-of-duty-sales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a> reported that putting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/games\/ps5\/call_of_duty_black_ops_6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Call of Duty: Black Ops 6<\/a> in the subscription \u2013 one of the reasons many fans wanted the acquisition to go ahead in the first place \u2013 cost the company over $300 million, with a whopping 82% of the shooter\u2019s full-price sales coming from PlayStation during its launch month in the US.<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully this sorry scenario will remain fresh in the mind of gamers the next time a giant tech merger hits the headlines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"avatar\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/avatar.jpg\" width=\"80\" height=\"80\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Sammy Barker\"\/><\/p>\n<p>As the Editor of Push Square, Sammy has over 15 years of experience analysing the world of PlayStation, from PS3 through PS5 and everything in between.
