Despite enjoying popularity primarily in the 90s, we\u2019d probably rank Digimon<\/a> in the niche category these days. But we\u2019d be wrong, because new game Digimon Story Time Stranger<\/a> is blowing up in a big way.<\/p>\n

While we\u2019ll need to await a lot more information, fans have noticed that the game has peaked at over 70k concurrent players on PC storefront Steam<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While concurrents don\u2019t reflect sales, a larger number generally means a higher proportion of players, which in theory means the title has sold well.<\/p>\n

In fact, if you compare to previous Digimon<\/a> games, the difference is dramatic.<\/p>\n

For example, Digimon Survive<\/a> \u2013 which, admittedly, is part of a different sub-series \u2013 peaked at a little over 6k players.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth<\/a> \u2013 Time Stranger\u2019s direct predecessor \u2013 peaked at barely 3.5k players. That game did arrive on PC several years after its PlayStation release, though.<\/p>\n

We obviously don\u2019t know how many people are playing the PS5 version, but on the US PS Store<\/strong><\/a>, the game is currently seventh on the digital best-sellers list, behind only the likes of Ghost of Yotei<\/a>, Fortnite<\/a>, NBA 2K26<\/a>, and Madden NFL 26<\/a>. It\u2019s actually above Roblox<\/a> and Battlefield 6<\/a>!<\/p>\n

We\u2019re sure if things are going as well as they seem, Bandai Namco will release a sales update shortly.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a shame, then, that the game didn\u2019t quite hit our reviewer\u2019s expectations.<\/p>\n

In our 6\/10 verdict<\/a>, we said the game \u201csquanders so much potential\u201d:<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Digimon Story Time Stranger just sat back and allowed its largely fantastic RPG systems to breathe, it could be counted amongst the finest of Digimon games. But instead, it gets bogged down in disappointingly linear design that limits combat and party-based progression at almost every turn. Despite being packed with such clear potential, Time Stranger ends up feeling like a frustrating misfire.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
