{"id":473674,"date":"2025-10-04T13:54:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-04T13:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/473674\/"},"modified":"2025-10-04T13:54:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-04T13:54:13","slug":"max-verstappens-chief-mechanic-to-leave-red-bull-and-join-audi-f1-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/473674\/","title":{"rendered":"Max Verstappen&#8217;s chief mechanic to leave Red Bull and join Audi F1 team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/max-verstappen\/829269\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Max Verstappen<\/a>\u2019s chief mechanic at Red Bull Matt Caller will join the Audi Formula 1 project at the end of the current season, Motorsport.com has learned.<\/p>\n<p>Audi\u2019s F1 preparations are steadily taking shape and behind the scenes it is working hard on its entry into the pinnacle of motorsport in 2026 when it officially takes over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/team\/sauber\/36476\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sauber<\/a> squad.<\/p>\n<p>In recent weeks, Audi recruited\u00a0Wolf Zimmermann and ICE specialist Lars Schmidt both from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/team\/ferrari\/36466\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrari<\/a>, which should come as no surprise as both worked closely with Mattia Binotto at the Italian manufacturer, with Binotto now at Audi as its COO and CTO.<\/p>\n<p>Operationally, the current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/team\/sauber\/9\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sauber<\/a> team also wants to make steps under the leadership of Jonathan Wheatley, who served as Red Bull&#8217;s sporting director for many years. That link to Red Bull explains another paddock transfer that has surfaced during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Motorsport.com has learned that Audi is strengthening its ranks by signing Caller, who is currently Verstappen\u2019s chief mechanic at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/team\/red-bull-racing\/36469\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Red Bull<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1759586053_173_max-verstappen-red-bull-racing.jpg\" alt=\"Max Verstappen, Red Bull Racing\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">Max Verstappen, Red Bull Racing<\/p>\n<p class=\"photographer\">Photo by: Glenn Dunbar \/ LAT Images via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Caller is set to finish the ongoing F1 season with Laurent Mekies\u2019 squad before making the move to Audi.<\/p>\n<p>Caller joined Red Bull in June 2015, after a stint at Carlin, beginning as a number 2 mechanic before being promoted to the role of chief mechanic in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>His exact position at Audi has not been announced yet, although it is expected to be more senior than his current position with Red Bull.<\/p>\n<p>Caller is not the first mechanic Red Bull has lost to the Audi project, as Lee Stevenson made the same switch and moved into a senior role at the Hinwil-based team.
