Supporters grew to around 100 before speeches began outside.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">The first speaker told those gathered not to engage with the media. Police officers quickly intervened to get between the two sides.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Pro-Palestine marches &#8211; of far more than 100 &#8211; have been held in Manchester on Saturdays for many months now, but the organisers of today&#8217;s protest faced calls to postpone in the wake of the terrorist atrocity on Thursday &#8211; Yom Kippur &#8211; at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/heaton-park\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Heaton Park<\/a> synagogue on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/middleton\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Middleton<\/a> Road in Crumpsall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">It&#8217;s thought that, and the rain, led to smaller numbers in Manchester on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">At St Peter&#8217;s Square, where Saturday&#8217;s protest was due to conclude, a smaller group gathered, with photographs of casualties in Gaza laid out on the floor.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1759637792_49_0_Manchester-demonstrations-4th-October-2025.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The crowds in Manchester(Image: Joel Goodman)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Two men &#8211; 53-year-old Adrian Daulby and 66-year-old Melvin Cravitz, both from Crumpsall &#8211; died after terrorist Jihad Al-Shamie, 35, launched a knife and car attack at the synagogue. Others were injured.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Al-Shamie was shot dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">After a vigil for the victims was held at the scene on Friday evening, the Chief Constable of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/greater-manchester-police\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Greater Manchester Police<\/a>, Sir Stephen Watson, and Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, called for organisers of protest marches in Manchester and London to reconsider in the wake of the attack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">The PM urged groups behind the demonstrations and attendees to &#8216;respect the grief of British Jews&#8217; as he said demonstrations could cause further pain to mourners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">But a protest in central London, campaigning against the proscription of Palestine Action, will go ahead. The force said people displaying placards in support of Palestine Action are being detained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">In a statement on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/twitter\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>, the Met said: \u201cOfficers have begun making arrests in Trafalgar Square where people are displaying placards in support of Palestine Action.
