THE Germans are piling on pressure to allow young EU migrants to live and work in Britain.<\/p>\n

The proposed scheme, labelled a Brexit<\/a> betrayal by opponents, would allow under-30s from Europe<\/a> to stay in the UK for a time on a youth visa.<\/p>\n

Berlin\u2019s ambassador in London<\/a>, Miguel Berger, said there \u201cneeds to be progress\u201d, insisting it would not fuel migration.<\/p>\n

Some Labour MPs have also called for PM Keir Starmer<\/a> to approve it.<\/p>\n

Fears are mounting ministers will cave in over the idea \u2014 as well as on fishing and trading standards \u2014 in return for a reset deal bringing closer cooperation.<\/p>\n

Tory leader Kemi Badenoch<\/a> has branded the scheme \u201cfree movement by the back door\u201d.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cStarmer risks bringing in young, unskilled migrants<\/a> to compete with British workers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Labour\u2019s<\/a> Nick Thomas-Symonds said a visa deal was \u201cnot part of our plans\u201d.<\/p>\n

But he did not rule it out categorically.<\/p>\n

At No10 yesterday Sir Keir met EU Commission boss Ursula von der Leyen<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She said talks could pave the way to Britain joining a European security programme.<\/p>\n

France have been blocking Britain<\/a> joining the defence pact until it agrees to give them greater access to our rich fishing waters.<\/p>\n
