5. Babi\u0161 is still charged with alleged fraud<\/p>\n

Babi\u0161 is currently\u00a0awaiting a verdict<\/a>\u00a0from the Prague District Court over whether he defrauded the EU out of \u20ac2 million so that Agrofert could receive subsidies intended for medium-sized businesses.<\/p>\n

The case hinges on whether the \u201cStork\u2019s Nest\u201d farm was carved out of Agrofert to make it look like a smaller, independent business. Unless new evidence is found, the court is obliged to take its lead from Prague\u2019s High Court, which in June\u00a0overturned an earlier ruling<\/a>\u00a0that had originally acquitted Babi\u0161 of wrongdoing.<\/p>\n
