{"id":47581,"date":"2025-04-24T21:06:16","date_gmt":"2025-04-24T21:06:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/47581\/"},"modified":"2025-04-24T21:06:16","modified_gmt":"2025-04-24T21:06:16","slug":"number-of-fit-adults-in-britain-soars-to-record-high-but-three-major-groups-still-lag-behind","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/47581\/","title":{"rendered":"Number of fit adults in Britain soars to record high &#8211; but three major groups still lag behind"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE number of adults getting fit is at a record high, a report reveals.<\/p>\n<p>Its figures show 64 per cent \u2014 more than 30 million \u2014 hit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/nhs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NHS<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/fitness-and-exercise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exercise<\/a> target of 2.5 hours per week last year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Man exercising on a stationary bike at home.\" height=\"888\" width=\"960\" data-credit=\"Getty\" data-img=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/3d90e8e9-4f2b-4d5b-8d48-6967c5e86dfb.jpg\" data-caption=\"The number of adults getting fit is at a record high\"   loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/3d90e8e9-4f2b-4d5b-8d48-6967c5e86dfb.jpg\" role=\"img\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>1<\/p>\n<p>The number of adults getting fit is at a record highCredit: Getty<\/p>\n<p>It is up by 2.4 million on 2016 and higher than every year since.<\/p>\n<p>Tim Hollingsworth, CEO of Sport <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/sport\/football\/team\/1196702\/england\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">England<\/a>, which compiled the stats, called it a \u201ca major milestone at a time of real social and economic challenges\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>But he added: \u201cWe know there is still much to do.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Black and Asian people are still less likely to be active than white people.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And women are less likely to be active than men.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt also remains grossly unfair that where a person lives and the size of their bank balance can have such a negative impact on whether they are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/fitness-and-exercise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">physically active<\/a> or not.<\/p>\n<p>We will continue to target our investment at groups and places that need it most.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The number of people classed as inactive fell by 477,000 in the 12 months to November 2024.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/gardening\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gardening<\/a>, strenuous housework and long walks count towards the target.<\/p>\n<p>Sessions in the gym and running also count.<\/p>\n<p>Full-body at-home workout for mums<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"THE number of adults getting fit is at a record high, a report reveals.
