The Smithsonian receives 62% of funding from the federal government and admission to its museums is free, but officials have not said what will happen if the shutdown extends beyond that date.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">In a statement to the BBC, the National Zoo confirmed: &#8220;Like all Smithsonian museums, [the National Zoo] receives federal funding. However, the popular animal <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalzoo.si.edu\/webcams\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 jZoZnB\" rel=\"noopener\">webcam<\/a> streams won&#8217;t be operating during the shutdown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Outdoor attractions such as monuments on the National Mall will remain open, while Washington-area museums and sites that do not rely on federal funding \u2013 including the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nbm.org\/\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 jZoZnB\" rel=\"noopener\">National Building Museum<\/a>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nmwa.org\/\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 jZoZnB\" rel=\"noopener\">the National Museum of Women in the Arts<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phillipscollection.org\/\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 jZoZnB\" rel=\"noopener\">the Phillips Collection<\/a> \u2013 will also continue to operate.<\/p>\n<p><b id=\"health-and-safety\" class=\"sc-d16436d-0 kPzeuB\">Health and safety<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Emergency services such as 911 dispatch will continue to operate as normal, and hospitals and medical centres remain open throughout the country. Veterans Affairs medical centres are also unaffected.
