{"id":476624,"date":"2025-10-05T20:39:47","date_gmt":"2025-10-05T20:39:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/476624\/"},"modified":"2025-10-05T20:39:47","modified_gmt":"2025-10-05T20:39:47","slug":"greggs-increasing-prices-due-to-higher-employment-costs-money-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/476624\/","title":{"rendered":"Greggs increasing prices due to higher employment costs | Money News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bakery chain Greggs is to increase its prices from Thursday as it grapples with increased employment costs.<\/p>\n<p>The price of a two-item breakfast deal will rise from \u00a32.95 to \u00a33.15 as the chain&#8217;s chief executive, Roisin Currie, said the &#8220;big cost&#8221; it had to factor in this year was employment.<\/p>\n<p>The three-item breakfast deal will also go up 20p, from \u00a33.95 to \u00a34.15.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/money-personal-finance-consumer-sky-news-latest-13040934\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Money latest: Citroen C3 drivers told to stop using cars immediately<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Greggs&#8217;s empire biscuit will also be 5p more expensive.<\/p>\n<p>It comes as Ms Currie said Greggs&#8217;s wage bill increased due to minimum wage rises and &#8220;surprise&#8221; higher employers&#8217; national insurance contributions, which cost the business \u00a320m.<\/p>\n<p>The outlook for further cost pressures on the company was uncertain as Ms Currie said Greggs was &#8220;still doing some work&#8221; on inflation projections and didn&#8217;t know about potential further national living wage rises.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Without those [upped staffing cost] factors, the outlook improves.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more:<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/us-government-on-brink-of-shutdown-13441990\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US government shuts down after last-ditch funding votes fail<\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/firm-linked-to-tory-peer-michelle-mone-breached-122m-ppe-contract-high-court-rules-13442052\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Firm linked to Tory peer Michelle Mone breached \u00a3122m PPE contract, judge rules<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We do our best to keep prices as low as possible,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Budget wishes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead to the upcoming November budget, Ms Currie said: &#8220;What&#8217;s not helpful are surprises.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For any changes taking place, she said she wanted &#8220;reasonable notice and good lead time&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The government, she added, need to be &#8220;attuned to pressure on people&#8217;s incomes&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s tough out there,&#8221; she said, as consumers continue to feel squeezed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Even when people have disposable income, they&#8217;re saving and when they&#8217;re spending, they&#8217;re spending wisely.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>New shops<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite costs going up and sales growth slowing, Greggs is looking to expand.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s on the lookout to open new locations, particularly in travel hubs (like train or bus stations and airports), in spots like petrol stations, supermarkets, retail parks and south England.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s &#8220;lots of opportunity&#8221; for Greggs in such sites, Ms Currie said.<\/p>\n<p>It expects around 120 net new shop openings this year.<\/p>\n<p>     <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/download-app\" target=\"blank\" data-tracking-label=\"ui-app-promo-download-link\" class=\"ui-app-promo sdc-article-widget\" data-type=\"\" data-component-name=\"ui-app-promo\" data-testid=\"app-promo\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<p>    <\/a><\/p>\n<p>It operates more than 3,000 shops across the UK.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Bakery chain Greggs is to increase its prices from Thursday as it grapples with increased employment costs.
