You have to have that warmth, that feeling of safety, security, love,\u201d the Prince of Wales, 43, said in an episode of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/was-eugene-levy-allowed-to-ask-prince-william-about-harry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Eugene Levy\u2019s<\/strong> Apple TV+ series<\/a> The Reluctant Traveler released on Friday, October 3, while reflecting on his father <strong>King Charles\u2019<\/strong> marriage to his late mother, <strong>Princess Diana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat all has to be there, and that was certainly part of my childhood,\u201d William recalled. \u201cMy parents got divorced at 8, so that lasted a short period of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Charles, 76, and Diana had an infamously tumultuous relationship. The pair married on July 29, 1981, but it was Charles\u2019 long-term affair with <strong>Camilla Parker Bowles<\/strong> (whom he married in April 2005) that contributed to the degradation of their relationship. The pair divorced in August 1996, one year before Diana\u2019s unexpected death in 1997 at age 36.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<a class=\"article__thumbnail related-ab-test\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-moms\/news\/prince-william-makes-1st-comment-about-son-prince-georges-future-as-king-a-big-question\/\" target=\"\" data-source=\"01\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-2224942621-Prince-William-Makes-1st-Comment-on-Prince-George-Becoming-King.jpg?crop=0px%2C164px%2C1631px%2C922px&amp;resize=400%2C225&amp;quality=40&amp;strip=all\"   alt=\"GettyImages-2224942621-Prince-William-Makes-1st-Comment-on-Prince-George-Becoming-King\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" data-fallback-img=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-2224942621-Prince-William-Makes-1st-Comment-on-Prince-George-Becoming-King.jpg?quality=70&amp;strip=all\"\/><br \/>\n\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<a class=\"article__title-link related-ab-test\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-moms\/news\/prince-william-makes-1st-comment-about-son-prince-georges-future-as-king-a-big-question\/\" target=\"\" data-source=\"01\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n    Related: Prince William Makes 1st Comment About Son George&#8217;s Future as King<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tPrince William is looking to change the monarchy in the future, and it all boils down to making his son, and future king, Prince George \u201cproud.\u201d The Prince of Wales, 43, opened up about his and George\u2019s roles as prospective monarchs, telling Eugene Levy during the Friday, October 3, episode of the Apple TV+ series [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou take that and you learn from it and you try and make sure you don\u2019t do the same mistakes as your parent,\u201d William said, referring to his role as dad to his children <strong>Prince George<\/strong>, 12, <strong>Princess Charlotte<\/strong>, 10, and <strong>Prince Louis<\/strong>, 7, who he shares with his wife, <strong>Kate Middleton<\/strong>. \u201cI think we all try and do that and I just want to do what\u2019s best for my children, but I know that the drama and the stress when you\u2019re small really affects you when you\u2019re older.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Prince of Wales also pointed to another source of discord for his family: intense media attention and speculation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-4122979\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/prince-william-2235361048.jpg\" alt=\"Prince William and Kate Middleton\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\"  \/><br \/>\n Prince William and Kate Middleton Kirsty Wigglesworth &#8211; WPA Pool\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrowing up, I saw that with my parents. The media were so insatiable back then. It\u2019s hard to think of it now, but they were much more insatiable,\u201d he explained. \u201cThey wanted every bit of detail they could absorb, and they were in everything, literally everywhere. They would know things, they\u2019d be everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cIf you let that creep in, the damage it can do to your family life is something that I vowed would never happen to my family. And so, I take a very strong line about where I think that line is and those who overstep it, I\u2019ll fight against.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-moms\/news\/prince-william-and-kate-middletons-kids-dont-have-cell-phones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elsewhere in the interview<\/a>, William admitted that he and Kate, 43, are pretty strict parents \u2014 and they always make sure to eat meals together.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tThank You!<\/p>\n<p>You have successfully subscribed.<\/p>\n<p>After Levy, 78, asked if the family sits \u201cdown at the dinner table together,\u201d William answered, \u201cYep, absolutely. Yep, definitely. So, we sit and chat, it\u2019s really important. None of our children have any phones, which we\u2019re very strict about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Instead, he added, the kids have other hobbies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLouis loves the trampoline, so he\u2019s obsessed with trampolining and, actually, Charlotte does a lot as well,\u201d William said. \u201cAs far as I can tell they just end up jumping up and down on the trampoline, beating each other up, most of the time. Apparently, there is an art to it. Charlotte does her netball as well and her ballet, and so keeping them busy with sports and being outdoors is really important. They\u2019re trying to learn musical instruments. I\u2019m not sure how successful we\u2019re being with that.
