{"id":477855,"date":"2025-10-06T09:48:18","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T09:48:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/477855\/"},"modified":"2025-10-06T09:48:18","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T09:48:18","slug":"social-work-england-issues-update-on-2025-registration-renewal-process","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/477855\/","title":{"rendered":"Social Work England issues update on 2025 registration renewal process"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/AdobeStock_208277332_9dreamstudio-e1584655366879_register_now_resized.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"Register Now sign on a desk\" decoding=\"async\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Photo: 9dreamstudio\/Adobe Stock<\/p>\n<p>Social Work England has issued an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialworkengland.org.uk\/about\/data-and-research\/data-and-insight\/registration-renewal-and-cpd-progress-reports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">update on the first month of this year\u2019s registration renewal round<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It showed that, as of 30 September, 8% of relevant practitioners had completed two of the three tasks required of them to retain their right to practise: filling in the renewal reform and submitting two pieces of continuing professional development (CPD), one of which must have been reflected upon with a peer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.communitycare.co.uk\/2024\/10\/04\/8-of-social-workers-had-completed-key-registration-tasks-by-end-of-first-month-of-renewal-period\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This is a similar rate of progress to that seen in 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The third requirement is to pay the renewal fee, which is generally taken from social workers in two direct debits, on 1 October and 1 April.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meet your CPD requirements with bite-size learning<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-203984\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/CC-Inform_ProfileIcon_150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"  \/>Community Care Inform subscribers can meet their CPD requirements with some bite-size learning by signing up to our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.communitycare.co.uk\/2025\/10\/01\/get-bite-size-learning-to-help-you-meet-social-work-englands-cpd-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Habit of Learning Autumn Challenge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>By signing up, you will receive an introductory email followed by eight 10-minute lessons on your chosen topic, delivered to your inbox over a three-week period.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a subscription to Community Care Inform Children,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccinform.co.uk\/learning-tools\/habit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sign up for the Autumn Challenge here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Users of Community Care Inform Adults\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/adults.ccinform.co.uk\/learning-tools\/habit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">can sign up for a course here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Record numbers of registered social workers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The update also revealed that record numbers of practitioners were on Social Work England\u2019s register at the start of the renewal period: 106,223, compared with 104,342 at the same time in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>All of these social workers must complete all three tasks to retain their registration, with those who have registered since 1 September 2025 only having to pay the fee.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.communitycare.co.uk\/2025\/07\/24\/social-work-england-presses-ahead-with-33-fee-rise-despite-huge-practitioner-opposition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The regulator has increased its renewal charge by 33% this year, from \u00a390 to \u00a3120<\/a>, a move that was opposed by the vast majority of respondents to the consultation on the policy, as well as by organisations representing social workers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No apparent impact on registration rates from renewal fee hike\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A recent Community Care survey found that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.communitycare.co.uk\/2025\/09\/17\/one-in-seven-social-workers-leave-registration-fee-readers-take\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one in seven practitioners said they would forfeit their right to practise by not paying the renewal fee, in protest at the increase.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, so far the change does not appear to have had an impact on practitioners\u2019 propensity to renew their registration.<\/p>\n<p>The data showed that 15,339 practitioners (14.4% of those registered before 1 September this year) had completed their renewal form, of whom 8,749 (8.2% of the total) had also met the CPD requirements, by 30 September 2025.
