{"id":478208,"date":"2025-10-06T13:47:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T13:47:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/478208\/"},"modified":"2025-10-06T13:47:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T13:47:16","slug":"whether-liverpool-have-a-buy-back-clause-on-sepp-van-den-berg-after-erling-haaland-praise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/478208\/","title":{"rendered":"Whether Liverpool have a buy-back clause on Sepp van den Berg after Erling Haaland praise"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Liverpool are almost certain to sign a new centre-back in 2026 after failing to bring Marc Guehi to the club on transfer deadline day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite the Reds buying Giovanni Leoni during the summer, they clearly felt the need to add one more to Arne Slot\u2019s squad.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Leoni has been ruled out for the season with a serious knee injury, leaving Slot with only three senior centre-halves to call upon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/2025\/10\/04\/ibrahima-konates-true-wage-at-liverpool-revealed-as-david-ornstein-explains-latest-on-contract-talks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">There is real uncertainty over Ibrahima Konate\u2019s Liverpool future<\/a> too, meaning the Reds could be down to just two options \u2013 Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez \u2013 by the start of next summer\u2019s transfer window.<\/p>\n<p>It is in stark contrast to the summer of 2024, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/club\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool<\/a> nominally had five centre-backs on the books, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/tag\/sepp-van-den-berg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sepp van den Berg<\/a> arriving back from a stellar loan spell at Mainz.<\/p>\n<p>Van den Berg ultimately joined Brentford for \u00a325m, with the youngster seeing no pathway to the first XI at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/club\/anfield-stadium-information\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anfield<\/a>. The Dutchman has since established himself in the Premier League with the Bees, and after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/2025\/10\/06\/erling-haaland-surprisingly-hails-former-liverpool-player-after-facing-him-at-brentford-with-man-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Van den Berg earned praise from Erling Haaland<\/a> on Sunday, is there a chance Liverpool look to bring him back?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-1415990643-1024x684.jpg\" alt=\"Sepp van den Berg pictured during a training session with Liverpool.\" class=\"wp-image-212062\" \/>Photo by John Powell\/Liverpool FC via Getty ImagesLiverpool do not have a buy-back clause on Sepp van den Berg<\/p>\n<p>Van den Berg has not been the only promising young centre-back to leave Liverpool over the past 18 months. Jarell Quansah has also departed, joining Bayer Leverkusen in July.<\/p>\n<p>Reports have since suggested that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/2025\/09\/05\/liverpool-have-already-agreed-a-contract-with-52m-centre-back-and-its-not-marc-guehi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool still see a future at Anfield for Quansah<\/a>, and have inserted a reasonable buy-back clause into his contract in Germany.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rousingthekop.com\/2025\/10\/06\/special-liverpool-player-pulls-out-of-international-duty-with-mysterious-injury-after-chelsea-cameo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Special\u2019 Liverpool player pulls out of international duty with mysterious injury after Chelsea cameo<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But with Van den Berg continuing to do well at Brentford \u2013 and attracting praise from arguably the best centre-forward in the game \u2013 did the Reds take a similar approach with the 23-year-old?<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, reports from the time of his sale suggest that Liverpool did not add a buy-back juncture to Van den Berg\u2019s move to Brentford.<\/p>\n<p>As per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/live-blogs\/transfer-news-latest-live-updates\/vBvLaPiexa9h\/RWTkzlgwzVkj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Athletic<\/a>, there is no mention of the Reds agreeing to a future fee for the Netherlands U21 international.<\/p>\n<p>They do reportedly possess a 17.5% sell-on clause to bank any profit if Van den Berg leaves Brentford.
