A staple of Liverpool’s high street has announced an exciting new venture. Wongs Jewellers on Whitechapel has been supplying the city with hand crafted jewellery for more than 45 years.<\/p>\n
The company’s founder, Brian Wong<\/a>, discovered a love for jewellery at 15-years-old when he trained to become a goldsmith. Brian launched his first workshop in April 1979 with only a few tools in a modest office block on North John Street.<\/p>\n The demand for Wong’s jewellery snowballed and within five years he had moved to a larger unit at the bottom on Mathew Street. As time progressed, the Wongs<\/a> name grew and a dedicated retail space became a priority.<\/p>\n In 2000, Wongs <\/a>moved into the ground floor of 5 Rainford Square – a quaint shop with tonnes of character. Fast forward a decade later and Wongs moved again for the final time to its permanent home on Whitechapel.<\/p>\n The family business has become a staple of the area and delivers everything from bespoke engagement rings, customer items and simple repairs. Wongs<\/a> has now announced an exciting new chapter which is decades in the making.<\/p>\n The jewellers confirmed a second store will open further afield in Manchester’s Arnedale shopping centre. The store will launch with a “slightly updated, luxurious look” while retaining Wongs’ classic image.<\/p>\n Wongs Jewellers<\/a>‘ commercial director Cynthia Cartwright told the ECHO: “<\/a>This has been on the agenda for a number of years but we’ve always wanted to ensure we had the right structure, processes and team.<\/p>\n “We’re such perfectionists that we didn’t want to do anything until we were 100% certain it was perfect. We didn’t want to do anything that might jeopardise the Liverpool store so we’ve been working in the background for ages to make sure everything will be smooth.<\/p>\n “We’re known as where Liverpool gets engaged. We’ve always prided our self on quality, service and experience so we’re very excited we can finally go on this new venture.<\/p>\n “The Manchester site will be a big leap but we’re ready. It will be an extension of the Liverpool store which won’t be going anywhere. I think everyone is surprised it’s taken us so long.”<\/p>\n The Manchester location includes an on-site workshop which will be visible to passersby. An opening date has been teased for “late summer.”<\/p>\n Wongs hopes to bring the two sites together through collaboration events with their respective cities.
