{"id":479208,"date":"2025-10-07T00:15:33","date_gmt":"2025-10-07T00:15:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/479208\/"},"modified":"2025-10-07T00:15:33","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T00:15:33","slug":"school-celebrates-a-truly-remarkable-teacher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/479208\/","title":{"rendered":"School celebrates a &#8216;truly remarkable&#8217; teacher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A FISHPONDS primary school has said goodbye to a long-serving teacher.<\/p>\n<p>Gerry Davis has retired after more than 21 years of service at Chester Park Junior School in Abingdon Road.<\/p>\n<p>Since joining the school in 2003 Mr Davis has taught more than 600 children in his classes, and run clubs, events, activities and camps.<\/p>\n<p>Head teacher Mike McNama said Mr Davis was a \u201ctruly remarkable\u201d member of the school community who was beloved by pupils, parents, and staff alike.<\/p>\n<p>Mr McNama said: \u201cHis commitment to Chester Park has been nothing short of extraordinary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact, some of the current parents were once children in his class\u2014a testament to the lasting impact he has made across generations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThroughout his time at Chester Park Juniors, Gerry has consistently gone above and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has taught over 600 pupils, each one benefiting from his warmth, humour, and unwavering support. But Gerry\u2019s contribution has always extended far beyond the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether it was running clubs, acting in the Christmas play, attending Chester Park discos and fairs, chatting with parents and carers, or simply checking in on a colleague, Gerry has always embodied what it means to be part of a community.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFormer students often returned to visit, and the first question was always \u2018Is Mr Davis here?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat speaks volumes about the care and connection he fostered.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a delight to see many former parents and children come back to say their personal goodbyes at the end of term.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The school paid tribute to Mr Davis\u2019s positivity, \u201ceven after a Bristol Rovers relegation\u201d, sense of camaraderie and genuine interest in others.<\/p>\n<p>Also highlighted was his commitment to running school camps.<\/p>\n<p>Mr McNama said: \u201cGerry has led more camps than perhaps any teacher in Bristol, bringing energy, enthusiasm, and fun that created unforgettable memories for countless children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSport has always been a passion for Gerry, especially cricket, and we know he\u2019ll continue to enjoy this in retirement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow that he has crossed the Chester Park boundary rope for the final time, we want him to know how deeply he will be missed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom everyone at Chester Park, thank you, Gerry. Your humour, kindness, and dedication have shaped our school in ways that will be felt for years to come.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wish you a long, happy, and healthy retirement.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A FISHPONDS primary school has said goodbye to a long-serving teacher.
