The event, called &#8220;The Birkenhead Day of the Dead: Calling the Ancestors,&#8221; will see people come together on Sunday, November 23 to add new bricks to &#8220;The People\u2019s Pyramid,&#8221; a growing monument created by former members of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/whats-on\/music-nightlife-news\/former-liverpool-musician-bill-drummond-7187241\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">The KLF<\/a>, Jimmy Cauty and Bill Drummond.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Each brick contains the ashes of a loved one &#8211; known as the &#8220;Ancestors&#8221; &#8211; and is laid into the structure during a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/whats-on\/whats-on-news\/what-toxteth-day-dead-take-28036847\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">ceremony<\/a> described as &#8220;equal parts absurd spectacle and powerful community ritual.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">The unique project began in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/toxteth\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Toxteth<\/a> in 2018 and has grown each year, with 92 bricks already added. This year\u2019s ceremony moves to Birkenhead Park for the first time, where a stage show and specially commissioned film and soundtrack by TowerBlock1 (Jimmy Cauty) will accompany the bricklaying.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">When the building stops, the celebration continues with the Afterlife Party at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/venue-brought-100000-people-town-32300904\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Future Yard<\/a> on Argyle Street (10pm\u20131am), featuring DJs curated by Sports Banger, an all-inclusive, internationally recognised DIY fashion house, record label and socially conscious satirists of British pop culture, class and politics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">There\u2019s also a strict hi-viz dress code, keeping with the theme of the organisers\u2019 construction company, K2 Plant Hire Ltd.<\/p>\n<p>A celebration of life and death<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">The People\u2019s Pyramid is the creation of Cauty and Drummond, better known for their work as The KLF &#8211; one of the most provocative and influential bands of the early 1990s, famous for burning \u00a31 million in cash as an art statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Instead of a comeback tour, the pair reformed in 2017 with a three-day Liverpool event called &#8220;Welcome to the Dark Ages,&#8221; which led to the creation of The People\u2019s Pyramid.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Each year, people who have chosen to be &#8220;MuMufied&#8221; &#8211; meaning their ashes are sealed in a brick to be added to the pyramid &#8211; are honoured in the ceremony.
