Former Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah<\/a> has revealed his reasons for leaving Anfield<\/a>. Quansah was among the notable departures sanctioned by the Reds<\/a> following their Premier League<\/a> success last season, moving to Bayer Leverkusen in a \u00a335million deal, and he acknowledges that seeking consistent playing time influenced his choice.<\/p>\n Quansah featured in Arne Slot’s opening Premier League fixture against Ipswich Town in August 2024, but was withdrawn at the interval and struggled to oust Ibrahima Konate throughout the term. He managed to complete the 90 minutes in just three of Liverpool’s 38 league encounters, with two of those appearances coming after they had already secured the title, having failed to persuade Slot of his abilities.<\/p>\n With a World Cup approaching next summer, a transfer appeared essential if he hoped to stake a claim for Thomas Tuchel’s squad heading to the USA, Canada and Mexico.<\/p>\n READ MORE: FSG receive answer to controversial Liverpool dream as UEFA release blunt statement<\/a>READ MORE: Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk called out in ‘worrying’ Liverpool dressing room claim<\/a><\/p>\n Things are progressing well for Quansah, who remained on the bench against Serbia in September and features in Tuchel’s squad for the forthcoming fixtures against Wales and Latvia.<\/p>\n Quansah values the football development he gained at Anfield, but insists the moment was right to seek pastures new.<\/p>\n “I have been learning from some of the best players around me at the time at Liverpool,” he said. “Being able to do that has been so good for my career. It has always been a big part of it. At this part of my career, 22 turning 23 [in January], I need hundreds of games to be where I want to be. Order your copy here<\/a> or pick up at participating retailer in the Liverpool area.<\/p>\n He featured in every minute of last summer’s European Under-21 Championships, helping Lee Carsley’s Young Lions claim victory in Slovakia.<\/p>\n The climax of that tournament saw a clash with Germany, with England triumphing 3-2 following extra-time.<\/p>\n Several rivals from that Germany squad are now club-level adversaries, with Quansah netting on his Bundesliga bow for Leverkusen and featuring in all six of their league fixtures.<\/p>\n Some upheaval has occurred during his development, however. Erik ten Hag brought the defender in during the summer but managed just two league fixtures before being dismissed, though his replacement Kasper Hjulmand clearly views Quansah as integral to his plans.<\/p>\n The England international operated in a three-man defence on Saturday, as Hjulmand’s side defeated Union Berlin 2-0, maintaining their undefeated league streak to five consecutive matches and moving up to fifth position.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/0_Blood-Red-coverJPG.jpg\")
