\n\tNew rule: if you\u2019re going to satirize me in the New York Times, then I\u2019m going to respond to you on Piers Morgan Uncensored. That\u2019s how Bill Maher<\/a> approached his response to Larry David<\/a>\u2018s essay \u201cMy Dinner With Adolf,\u201d which was published in the New York Times<\/a> on Monday and satirized Maher\u2019s visit to the White House in March, after which Maher called President Trump \u201cgracious\u201d and \u201cnot fake.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFirst of all, it\u2019s kind of insulting to six million dead Jews,\u201d Maher told Piers Morgan in an interview<\/a> on the set of Maher\u2019s podcast. \u201cIt\u2019s an argument you kind of lost just to start it. Look, maybe it\u2019s not completely logically fair, but Hitler has really kind of got to stay in his own place. He is the GOAT of evil. We\u2019re just going to have to leave it like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDavid\u2019s \u201cMy Dinner With Adolf\u201d details a fictitious dinner with Adolf Hitler, in which David is surprised to see the Nazi leader \u201cseemed so human\u201d at an intimate occasion: \u201cTh private Hitler was a completely different animal. And oddly enough, this one seemed more authentic, like this was the real Hitler.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a companion piece to David\u2019s article, New York Times deputy opinion editor Patrick Healy wrote that, \u201cLarry\u2019s piece is not equating Trump with Hitler. It is about seeing people for who they really are and not losing sight of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis wasn\u2019t my favorite moment of our friendship. I think the minute you play the \u2018Hitler\u2019 card, you\u2019ve lost the argument,\u201d Maher said about David\u2019s piece, as Morgan offered a \u201cThat\u2019s what I think\u201d interjection. \u201cCome on, man. Hitler, Nazis \u2014 nobody has been harder, and more prescient I must say, about Donald Trump than me. I don\u2019t need to be lectured on who Donald Trump is. Just the fact that I met him in person didn\u2019t change that. The fact that I reported honestly is not a sin either.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t want to make this constantly personal with me and Larry. We might be friends again,\u201d Maher continued later in the interview. \u201cI can take a shot and I can also take it when people disagree with me. That\u2019s not exactly the way I would\u2019ve done it. Again, the irony: let\u2019s go back to what my original thing was. There\u2019s got to be a better way than hurling insults and not talking to people. If I can talk to Trump, I can talk to Larry David too.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMaher detailed his White House visit <\/a>on his April 11 episode of his HBO talk series \u201cReal Time.\u201d In the monologue, Maher called Trump \u201cgracious\u201d and \u201cmuch more self-aware than he lets on.\u201d <\/p>\n
