The Andalusian region of Spain<\/a> is home to plenty of beautiful places<\/a>, each striking enough to capture the attention of travellers<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n Seville is renowned for its lively atmosphere and stunning architecture; Malaga<\/a> boasts beautiful beaches, bags of culture and vibrant nightlife; Granada is home to the iconic Alhambra<\/a>, a magnificent fortress and palace and one of the most famous monuments of Islamic architecture.<\/p>\n Among this impressive lineup is C\u00f3rdoba, a charming city that often finds itself overlooked.<\/p>\n C\u00f3rdoba, a designated UNESCO<\/a> World Heritage Site, has a rich history, with Roman roots dating back to its foundation in 152 BC. Visitors can still find remnants of its past today.<\/p>\n Once the capital of the Moorish Empire during the \u2018Islamic Golden Age\u2019 in the 10th century, the city flourished under the rule as a centre of art, science, and philosophy, becoming one of the most advanced cities in Europe.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t\t \t\t\t\tSign up to The Getaway newsletter\t\t\t<\/p>\n Fuel your wanderlust with our curated newsletter of travel deals, guides and inspiration.\u00a0Sign up here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Nowadays, it\u2019s often bypassed in favour of more popular Andalusian destinations. <\/p>\n But those who explore will be treated to its stunning architecture and rich cultural scene, including the Mezquita-Cathedral, the ancient Roman bridge, and the winding streets of the Jewish quarter.\u00a0<\/p>\n It even featured in Skyscanner\u2019s annual report of the hottest destinations<\/a> for 2025.<\/p>\n The city ranked fifth on the list of places that have seen the biggest increase in searches over the past 12 months, standing alongside other stunning spots from Troms\u00f8<\/a>, Norway to Siem Reap in Cambodia.<\/p>\n We\u2019ve already established that C\u00f3rdoba is worth a visit, but before you book your flights to the Andalusian treasure, here\u2019s everything you need to know.<\/p>\n @senses_of_spain<\/a> <\/p>\n I recently saw someone comment that C\u00f3rdoba was only worth visiting for the Mezquita, and I couldn\u2019t believe it because there are SO many things to do in C\u00f3rdoba besides its most famous monument (stunning though that is!). It\u2019s a timeless city with so much history, culture and beauty, not to mention wonderful food. I\u2019ll be sharing more C\u00f3rdoba content, so follow to see some of the many reasons why this city deserves so much more than a day trip, and NEEDS to be on your Spain bucket list. Alternatively, you could catch a direct train, which takes around 45 minutes to an hour.\u00a0<\/p>\n There are plenty of direct flights from London to Seville operated by airlines like Ryanair<\/a>, easyJet<\/a> and British Airways<\/a>.\u00a0The journey takes around two hours and 45 minutes, and prices start from \u00a345 in late October on Skyscanner.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t\t Alternatively, you can fly to Malaga Airport, around 165 kilometres (103 miles) from C\u00f3rdoba. Direct flights from London to Malaga<\/a> take around two hours and 40 minutes and could work out cheaper, with prices starting at \u00a320 in October.\u00a0<\/p>\n The travel time from Malaga to C\u00f3rdoba works out similarly, too; the drive takes around one hour and 45 minutes, while direct trains are roughly 50 minutes.<\/p>\n What\u2019s the weather like in C\u00f3rdoba?<\/p>\n The best time to visit C\u00f3rdoba is during the spring (April to early June) or in Autumn (September to October) when the weather is mild but pleasant enough to explore comfortably.<\/p>\n Being inland in the south of Spain, C\u00f3rdoba experiences more extreme temperatures than coastal areas, and its summers can be unbearably hot.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t\t As such, tourists may want to avoid visiting between July and August when temperatures can soar to extreme highs, often exceeding 40\u00b0C.<\/p>\n October, in particular, is a great time to visit. While it\u2019s cooler than the intense summer heat, temperatures can reach up to 27\u00b0C \u2013 perfect for some last-minute sun-seeking.\u00a0<\/p>\n Winter also has pleasant temperatures, between 10-16\u00b0C, and there are fewer tourists for those who want to escape the crowds.\u00a0<\/p>\n What to do in C\u00f3rdoba<\/p>\n Due to its UNESCO World Heritage Status, the city is brimming with history and culture, offering plenty to see and do.\u00a0<\/p>\n A trip to C\u00f3rdoba would be remiss without a visit to the Mezquita Cathedral, one of the \u2018world\u2019s greatest works of Islamic architecture\u2019, according to Lonely Planet.<\/p>\n \t\t Originally built as a mosque during the 8th century, it was converted into a Christian cathedral in the 13th century.<\/p>\n It features horseshoe arches with distinctive red-and-white stripes, a prayer hall with carved columns, and an intricately designed mihrab.<\/p>\n The Mezquita has a five-star rating on TripAdvisor, with visitors declaring it \u2018magnificent\u2019.<\/p>\n One, @trewen, wrote: \u2018The beauty of this place needs to be seen to be believed. The architecture is magnificent. You cannot visit C\u00f3rdoba and not make a visit here.\u2019<\/p>\n @july_chernika<\/a> <\/p>\n Originally a mosque built in the 8th century during Islamic rule, the Mosque\u2013Cathedral of C\u00f3rdoba in Spain underwent significant transformations when Christians conquered the city in the 13th century. Instead of demolishing the mosque, they constructed a cathedral within its intricate arches, resulting in a unique fusion of Islamic and Christian architecture.
