Leeds United are over a month on from the summer transfer window, and January opens up its window in 86 days from now.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There will be a number of factors which influence the January transfer window and what Leeds United<\/a> can get done within that period. In the end,\u00a0Leeds fans were left frustrated after deadline day<\/a> in the summer.<\/p>\n

In that sense, January is an opportunity to rectify things. It was a shame, given that the difficult end came following a positive and productive start to the summer transfer window for\u00a0the 49ers<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Daniel Farke<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Including all add-ons, Leeds spent \u00a3108.5 million<\/a>\u00a0in the market but\u00a0Leeds were restricted financially via PSR<\/a>, and many have not forgiven the 49ers for not bringing in more attacking reinforcements.<\/p>\n

From the outset, Leeds were tipped to be busy in the transfer market<\/a>\u00a0by many, perhaps more so than the majority of Premier League clubs. They were very active initially but the spending and stream of incomings slowed.<\/p>\n

Their final attacker was Noah Okafor\u2019s arrival. Leeds\u2019 late lack of spending under the 49ers<\/a>\u00a0was then explained in early-September, with Managing Director\u00a0Robbie Evans claiming Leeds \u2018maxed out PSR\u2019<\/a>\u00a0in the end. <\/p>\n

In more recent weeks since the end of the window,\u00a0Leeds\u2019 frugal 49ers spending has been laid bare<\/a> regarding the latter stages of the window. <\/p>\n

Now, Sky Sports\u2019<\/a> Zinny Boswell has explained the situation. He wrote: \u201cLeeds will have to be mindful of PSR if they do business in January. If their more expensive targets, such as\u00a0Igor Paixao, had joined, others would have had to be sold.<\/p>\n

\u201cBarring any changes to the club\u2019s PSR position before the window, loan signings present the most likely avenue for Leeds to strengthen in January and it is understood they will be attentive if any players of interest become available for a temporary move.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cLeeds are happy with their summer business after spending just over \u00a3100m on 10 signings to improve the spine of the team, although injuries to\u00a0Dan James\u00a0and\u00a0Willy Gnonto\u00a0early in the season have highlighted why there is a desire to add more depth out wide.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe situation around targets could, of course, change between now and January depending on injuries, but there is a positive mood at Elland Road and a belief that so far Farke and his players have shown they can be competitive in the Premier League.\u00a0\u201c<\/p>\n

Paraag Marathe\u2019s comments were that Leeds would spend every penny<\/a>\u00a0available in the summer. Perhaps they did, but Leeds need them to dig deeper or be inventive with how they operate in the market in two-and-a-half months\u2019 time.<\/p>\n

Marathe said: \u201cWhatever they will let us spend, we\u2019ll spend. I can comfortably say that we are going to spend the very last penny that we can. I\u2019m under no illusions that it\u2019s going to be easy. There\u2019s a widening gap.\u201d<\/p>\n

It may require a sale, as Boswell alludes to. Leeds won\u2019t want to lose any assets of value both financially and in terms of their contribution on the pitch, but they may well have to.<\/p>\n

Leeds have signed well in terms of the players brought in for 2025\/26, but it is not a question of quality. The problem was also quantity, as Leeds needed more players of the same quality as the other additions.
