Deepika Padukone dated Ranbir Kapoor for several years before a tough breakup.<\/p>\n

Bollywood has given fans several iconic on-screen pairs, but few match the charm of Ranbir Kapoor<\/a> and Deepika Padukone. Even though their real-life relationship is now a thing of the past, old interviews of the former couple continue to resurface. In an earlier conversation with People, Deepika and Ranbir recalled their first date and how their romance officially began. They revealed that they were in other relationships when they had their first date. Ranbir also revealed that he was the one who pursued Deepika.<\/p>\n

Ranbir, Deepika\u2019s First Date<\/strong><\/p>\n

Deepika Padukone recalled her \u201cfirst date” with Ranbir Kapoor and revealed that they were set up by their makeup artists. She said, \u201cThis goes back to when we were shooting for our respective debut films, and we had just heard about each other. We had common makeup artists \u2014 Bharat and Dorris. Dorris is really fond of us, and she told me that he [Ranbir] is a really sweet guy and we should meet up.”<\/p>\n

She said, \u201cDorris had once called him when she was with me. She said, \u2018Why don\u2019t you guys talk?\u2019 That\u2019s when we first spoke and exchanged numbers. A few days later, almost around the same time [July 2007], he asked me out for lunch. He came and picked me up, and we went to Celini at Grand Hyatt [Mumbai] for lunch.”<\/p>\n

Deepika recalled, \u201cIt was meant to be only lunch, but lunch became coffee; coffee became cheesecake; and cheesecake became a movie.” Ranbir revealed that they saw Mr Bean\u2019s Holiday that day. Deepika added, \u201cThat didn\u2019t end there. It became a long drive, and then he dropped me home. We started seeing each other on February 23, [2008]. It has been a year since we have known each other.”<\/p>\n

Ranbir, Deepika Were In Different Relationships When They Met<\/strong><\/p>\n

The actors mentioned that their respective partners knew about this lunch \u201cdate”. Even though Deepika previously described the meeting as their first date, she later mentioned that it was only platonic. \u201cBoth our partners at that time knew that we were going out. It was quite platonic. It was just lunch and nothing more to it,” she said.<\/p>\n

Love At First Sight?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ranbir Kapoor mentioned, \u201cWe were attracted at the very first sight and then gradually we fell in love.” \u201cWe hit it off really well, and we liked spending time with each other. And then, love happened slowly. We were friends for six months before we started seeing each other,” Deepika said.<\/p>\n

Ranbir Pursued Deepika<\/strong><\/p>\n

The actress added that Ranbir started to pursue her when they were shooting for Bachna Ae Haseeno in Sydney. Ranbir confessed, \u201cOf course, I pursued her. I\u2019m quite orthodox that way. I feel a man should always pursue a woman\u2026 But she was a hard nut to crack. She is someone who is not that transparent. She is quite poker-faced that way, and I didn\u2019t know what she was thinking.”<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cIt so happened that we spent the entire month of January together while shooting for Bachna Ae Haseeno in Sydney. Once we got back, we spent time together while working on the Pepsi commercial. Gradually, we started meeting a lot, hanging out, going for dinners and coffee.”<\/p>\n

\u201cHe came all the way to Karjat to pick me up. I was shooting a song with Akshay Kumar for Chandni Chowk to China then, and he was free for a couple of days. He drove all the way to Karjat to pick me up, and we spent the evening together,” Deepika recalled.<\/p>\n

\u2018Matchmaker\u2019 Dorris Never Intended For Deepika, Ranbir To Date<\/strong><\/p>\n

After this revelation, senior makeup artist Dorris Godambe said in an interview that while she did introduce the former couple, they didn\u2019t intend for them to date. \u201cI had no intentions of hooking them up. But while I was working for Om Shanti Om and Saawariya, I used to update them on my experiences on the film set,” she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso, I consider Ranbir as my son because he resembles my son Suraj, and I have this habit of talking about him to everyone I know. That\u2019s how I started telling Deepika about Ranbir,” she recalled.\u00a0Similarly, she started talking to Ranbir about Deepika, and the actor got curious. \u201cEventually, I made them talk to each other on the phone, and even before I realised it, they had started going out together,” Dorris said.<\/p>\n

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone\u2019s romance was equally loved by their fans, but it ended on a bitter note when the actor cheated on the Fighter star. While Deepika made several comments on Ranbir after their breakup, she eventually mended her relationship with him, and they now share a friendship. Deepika eventually married Ranveer Singh, and Ranbir tied the knot with Alia Bhatt- all four actors share a good bond.<\/p>\n
