{"id":481124,"date":"2025-10-07T20:02:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-07T20:02:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/481124\/"},"modified":"2025-10-07T20:02:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T20:02:13","slug":"drink-driver-who-crashed-into-road-sign-has-taxi-licence-approved-by-glasgow-councillors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/481124\/","title":{"rendered":"Drink driver who crashed into road sign has taxi licence approved by Glasgow councillors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A drink-driver who crashed into a road sign has been given a taxi licence in Glasgow.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Police Scotland objected to Mason Mullen\u2019s application to work as a taxi driver after he was handed a one-year driving ban in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>An officer told councillors that the applicant had driven without \u201cdue care and attention or without reasonable consideration\u201d for others using the road.<\/p>\n<p>The driver had collided with a road sign on a footpath, causing his vehicle to spin onto the carriageway, the officer said.<\/p>\n<p>He added Mr Mullen failed a roadside breath test, which showed he had 89mcg in 100ml breath \u2014 which is around four times higher than the legal limit.<\/p>\n<p>However, Glasgow\u2019s licensing committee decided to grant a taxi driver\u2019s licence to the applicant. It also issued him with a warning over his conduct.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Mullen described his actions as \u201cstupid\u201d but said he had not been in trouble since. He also submitted character references for the committee to consider.<\/p>\n<p>As well as a 12-month disqualification, the applicant was fined \u00a3350. On the day of the incident, a later breath test at a police station found he had 43mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.
