The name harks back to historic preparations for winter in the northern hemisphere, where people would hunt and preserve meats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It&#8217;s also called Harvest Moon, designated to the full moon that rises closest to the autumn equinox (<a href=\"http:\/\/bbc.com\/weather\/articles\/cwynx6xy3gyo\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">22 September<\/a>).
