Some 75% of people say they are comfortable to have gay, lesbian or bisexual colleagues. But <strong>LGBTIQ+ people continue to experience disproportionate and unacceptable levels of hate, violence and discrimination<\/strong>. Around one in three LQBTIQ+ people still report experiencing discrimination in the past 12 months.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To defend equality and inclusion whenever they are under threat, the EU has launched its <strong>LGBTIQ+ equality strategy for 2026-2030<\/strong>. It builds on the previous strategy for 2020-2025 and will go further in ensuring LGBTIQ+ equality is mainstreamed across all EU policies.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new strategy sets out 3 key areas of action:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>protecting\u00a0<\/strong>LGBTIQ+ people\n<ul>\n<li><strong>from hate-motivated harassment and violence<\/strong> through a new action plan against cyberbullying and the creation of a knowledge hub to collect intelligence on illegal hate online<\/li>\n<li><strong>from discrimination<\/strong>, by enforcing relevant EU laws\u00a0and by continuing to fund civil society organisations that defend the rights of LGBTIQ+ people\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>from conversion practices<\/strong>, which seek to forcibly change people\u2019s sexual orientation or gender identity, by analysing them and considering appropriate measures as well as considering the European Citizens\u2019 Initiative to ban such practices\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>empowering<\/strong> LGBTIQ+ people through\n<ul>\n<li><strong>equality bodies,<\/strong> by ensuring that they are effective\u00a0in promoting LGBTIQ+ rights<\/li>\n<li><strong>rainbow families,<\/strong> by encouraging EU countries to adopt the Recognition of Parenthood proposal\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>promoting inclusion at workplace,\u00a0<\/strong>working with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eu-diversity-inclusion.campaign.europa.eu\/eu-platform-diversity-charters_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EU Platform of Diversity Charters<\/a> to support LGBTIQ+ employees\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>engaging<\/strong> society to advance LGBTIQ+ equality by\n<ul>\n<li><strong>calling on all EU countries to adopt national strategies<\/strong> or actions plans on LGBTIQ+ equality<\/li>\n<li><strong>improving the data collection and analysis\u00a0<\/strong>to better understand the real-life experiences of LGBTIQ+ people<\/li>\n<li><strong>launching an \u201cLGBTIQ+ Policy Forum\u201d,\u00a0<\/strong>a direct platform for exchange between civil society and the European Commission\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Commission will publish a report on the implementation of <strong>employment equality rules\u00a0<\/strong>in 2026 and continue to ensure their rigorous application.
