Children from Edinburgh<\/a> have teamed up with kids from Ireland for a “groundbreaking” project. The young people from the two countries collaborated on a unique rap song.<\/p>\n Tinderbox Collective is a community of young people, musicians, artists and youth workers that is based in Scotland<\/a>. Meanwhile, Kabin Crew is a young rap collective based out of Cork City’s northside.<\/p>\n The two groups recently joined forces for a song titled ‘Meas M\u00f3r’, which means ‘Big Respect’ in Gaelic<\/a>. The track was written in both Scots and Irish Gaelic.<\/p>\n ‘Meas M\u00f3r’ is a celebration of Scottish and Irish culture and heritage<\/a>. The song sees young people from Tinderbox Collective and Kabin Crew take turns dropping bars in their own native language.<\/p>\n The Scottish performers are from Edinburgh’s Bun-sgoil Taobh na P\u00e0irce, also known as Parkside Primary School. The school is a Gaelic primary school that is open to any parents in the city or surrounding areas who wish to have their children<\/a> learn and be educated through Scottish Gaelic.<\/p>\n The young Scottish and Irish rappers recorded ‘Meas M\u00f3r’ in June of this year. The recording<\/a> sessions took place at Kabin Studio in Knocknaheeny in Cork.<\/p>\n Content cannot be displayed without consent<\/p>\n General Manager at Tinderbox Collective Jed Milroy commented: “Tinderbox Collective are so excited to be collaborating with The Kabin Studio on this unique creative project.<\/p>\n “Their ambitious approach to making youth music both accessible as well as of the highest quality is truly inspiring for us all and to be part of them using that platform to promote Gaelic and Irish is a real honour. Long may it continue!”<\/p>\n Meanwhile, 10-year-old Edinburgh performer Archie added: “It\u2019s been working really well getting to write a song in Gaelic and Irish and meeting the Kabin Studio guys. It\u2019s really interesting to meet Irish Gaelic rappers.<\/p>\n “I hope is that if we keep doing this we could get as famous as the Kabin Crew!\u201d<\/p>\n The youngsters also filmed a video for the earworm, which was shot in both Edinburgh and Cork. The video has subtitles that change colour depending on which language is being spoken, with blue for Scots Gaelic.<\/p>\n The description for the video reads: “Young musicians (age 9 to 12) from Edinburgh and Cork unite in a groundbreaking Irish-Scots Gaelic rap project!<\/p>\n
