{"id":482808,"date":"2025-10-08T11:24:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-08T11:24:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/482808\/"},"modified":"2025-10-08T11:24:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T11:24:13","slug":"heather-humphreys-deletes-day-in-belfast-video-after-showing-germany-instead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/482808\/","title":{"rendered":"Heather Humphreys deletes &#8216;day in Belfast&#8217; video after showing Germany instead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Heather Humphreys was forced to delete and re-edit a campaign video about a \u2018day in Belfast\u2019 after her campaign mistakenly included an image of Germany instead.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/extra.ie\/2025\/09\/24\/news\/politics\/heather-humphreys-husband\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fine Gael Presidential candidate<\/a> posted the video to her social media accounts in an attempt to showcase her links to the North.<\/p>\n<p>However, the original video showed the Bundestag in Berlin with a German flag waving atop the building, instead of Belfast City Hall. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-2233764363-e1759921063749.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1695544\"  \/>Humphreys showcased the Reichstag building, the seat of the German Parliament. Pic: Artur Widak\/NurPhoto via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Humphreys made the trip to visit Ulster University and a number of other venues, including St Dominic\u2019s School on the Falls Road, which counts Mary McAleese as a former student.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The video was captioned: \u2018I will be a President for All. Thank you to St Dominic\u2019s for the invitation to visit the school of our former President, Mary McAleese on the Falls Road and to all of the local community groups and students I met in Queen\u2019s University and @StudyAtUlster. A lovely day in Belfast.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The mistake comes just three days after the candidate insisted she had a \u2018unique understanding\u2019 of the North and doesn\u2019t \u2018just go on day trips\u2019 there.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-2158585054-e1759921190482.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1695546\"  \/>The video was meant to show Belfast City Hall. Pic: Ahmet Gurhan Kartal\/Anadolu via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Unsurprisingly, social media has eaten up the error and jokes have been made in abundance online.<\/p>\n<p>One user wrote: \u2018Easy to confuse both cities, they each begin with the letter B. O\u2019Kelly was re-elected uncontested.<\/p>\n<p>The last Presidential Election, which took place in 2018 saw Michael D Higgins retain his position uncontested.<\/p>\n<p>2011 saw the most Presidential candidates with seven officially nominated.
