{"id":48285,"date":"2025-04-25T03:06:13","date_gmt":"2025-04-25T03:06:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/48285\/"},"modified":"2025-04-25T03:06:13","modified_gmt":"2025-04-25T03:06:13","slug":"uk-seeking-carve-outs-on-cars-and-pharma-in-us-deal-reeves-confirms-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/48285\/","title":{"rendered":"UK seeking carve-outs on cars and pharma in US deal, Reeves confirms \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The chancellor\u2019s comments, made during a three-day visit to the U.S. capital for the International Monetary Fund\u2019s Spring talks, shed more light on the areas the British government is targeting as it tries to land a deal with Donald Trump\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n<p>They came ahead of a meeting with Reeves\u2019 American counterpart Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Director of the National Economic Council Kevin Hassett on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"588\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/GettyImages-2210844909-1024x588.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6515664\"  \/>Donald Trump slapped 25 percent tariffs on cars imports to the U.S. earlier this month. | Focke Strangmann\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Trump slapped 25 percent tariffs on cars imports to the U.S. earlier this month and there are looming duties on pharmaceuticals, a key U.K. industry.<\/p>\n<p>U.K. officials are \u201cworking flat out to achieve a deal,\u201d Reeves said, but she stressed that \u201cthe most important thing is we get the right deal for Britain, not a rush deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;Huge opportunities&#8217; in tech<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Britain\u2019s finance chief also stressed that technology would be central to any deal with the U.S., saying there were \u201chuge opportunities\u201d for the two countries to strike an agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can see that with the investment that comes to the U.K. from the U.S. \u2026 the U.K. has offered, for many businesses, the number one investment destination.
