Liverpool are reportedly already in discussions with a different defender as their pursuit of Marc Guehi has hit a roadblock.<\/strong><\/p>\n Guehi\u2019s deadline day move to Anfield broke down<\/a>\u00a0after the Eagles blocked the transfer at the last moment.<\/p>\n Arne Slot\u2019s side now face competition from the likes of Manchester City<\/a> to secure the signature of the Crystal Palace captain.<\/p>\n Liverpool could be forced to spend big to bring Guehi in<\/a> during the January transfer window, and are now exploring alternative options in case a deal for the England international is unrealistic.<\/p>\n Last month, Football Insider<\/strong> revealed that Liverpool are weighing up a move for Barcelona\u2019s\u00a0Ronald Araujo<\/a>. <\/p>\n Everton\u2019s former chief Keith Wyness<\/a> \u2013 who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs \u2013 believes that the Reds are the favourites in the race to land the highly-rated defender.<\/p>\n Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider<\/strong>\u2019s Inside Track podcast<\/a>, Wyness insisted that Liverpool<\/a> are already in discussions with Araujo and his representatives, and that there may have been meetings between both parties.<\/p>\n MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES<\/p>\n Wyness added that Slot\u2019s side are struggling in defensive areas, and need to address their problem in the January transfer window.<\/p>\n He told Football Insider<\/strong>\u2018s Inside Track podcast: \u201cLiverpool in particular, there\u2019s been some red lights flashing in the Liverpool defence, and I think Araujo could be one that\u2019s on their shortlist.<\/p>\n \u201cUnless the Marc Guehi thing ends up happening, I think Araujo is one that could be coming. He\u2019s a quality player. I think he would suit Liverpool in particular, and I think they\u2019re prepared to reach out and get him.<\/p>\n \u201cLiverpool would be favourites in that race from what I\u2019m hearing and I believe that there\u2019s been visits and discussions already.
