{"id":484148,"date":"2025-10-08T23:18:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-08T23:18:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/484148\/"},"modified":"2025-10-08T23:18:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T23:18:13","slug":"charity-celebrating-black-history-month-on-birminghams-canals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/484148\/","title":{"rendered":"Charity celebrating Black History Month on Birmingham\u2019s canals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aiir-c-news-figure__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/68e6eb6774fa2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"aiir-c-news-article__abstract\">\n            The Canal &amp; River Trust and Brindleyplace are honouring the contributions, cultures, and stories of Black communities that have helped shape the region\u2019s waterways\n        <\/p>\n<p>The event will take place on Saturday 25\u00a0October at Brindleyplace in central Birmingham, featuring live music, storytelling, community art, spoken word performances, guided heritage walks, and bell boating sessions.<\/p>\n<p>The day also includes family-friendly workshops, food stalls celebrating African and Caribbean cuisine, and opportunities to engage with local artists, historians, and community voices.<\/p>\n<p>Amat Saeed, from Canal &amp; River Trust, said: \u201cOur canals have long been places where different communities meet, work, and share their stories.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This Black History Month, we\u2019re proud to celebrate the diversity that has shaped Birmingham and its waterways \u2014 recognising the heritage, resilience, and creativity of Black communities past and present.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBirmingham\u2019s canals are part of our shared history. By bringing people together on and off the water, we\u2019re creating a space to honour that history and to inspire future generations to connect with our historic canals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The events will take place from 11am to 5pm. Entry is free and open to everyone.
