{"id":484157,"date":"2025-10-08T23:23:20","date_gmt":"2025-10-08T23:23:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/484157\/"},"modified":"2025-10-08T23:23:20","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T23:23:20","slug":"rian-johnson-opens-london-film-festival-with-wake-up-dead-man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/484157\/","title":{"rendered":"Rian Johnson Opens London Film Festival With &#8216;Wake Up Dead Man&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWake Up Dead Man has arrived in London, just in time for spooky season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDirector-writer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/rian-johnson\/\" id=\"auto-tag_rian-johnson_1\" data-tag=\"rian-johnson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rian Johnson<\/a> ushered in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/bfi-london-film-festival\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bfi-london-film-festival_1\" data-tag=\"bfi-london-film-festival\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BFI London Film Festival<\/a> on Wednesday night with the hotly anticipated third installment of his Knives Out series, out on Netflix on Dec. 12 and starring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/daniel-craig\/\" id=\"auto-tag_daniel-craig_1\" data-tag=\"daniel-craig\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Craig<\/a> as the fan-favorite detective Benoit Blanc.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tJoining the filmmaker at the October film fest on the Royal Festival Hall\u2019s red carpet were stars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/glenn-close\/\" id=\"auto-tag_glenn-close_1\" data-tag=\"glenn-close\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glenn Close<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/josh-brolin\/\" id=\"auto-tag_josh-brolin_1\" data-tag=\"josh-brolin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Josh Brolin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/andrew-scott\/\" id=\"auto-tag_andrew-scott_1\" data-tag=\"andrew-scott\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andrew Scott<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/mila-kunis\/\" id=\"auto-tag_mila-kunis_1\" data-tag=\"mila-kunis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mila Kunis<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/kerry-washington\/\" id=\"auto-tag_kerry-washington_1\" data-tag=\"kerry-washington\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kerry Washington<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/cailee-spaeny\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cailee-spaeny_1\" data-tag=\"cailee-spaeny\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cailee Spaeny<\/a> and Daryl McCormack, who round out a colorful new cast of suspects as Blanc tackles his most dangerous case yet. Josh O\u2019Connor, who leads as Father Jud, attempting to save the flock of churchgoers at an upstate New York parish, was not in attendance at the screening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tJohnson confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter on the carpet that this is his most personal Knives Out film yet: \u201cIt\u2019s about faith and religion. I grew up very religious. I\u2019m not anymore, but it\u2019s something that I still have a lot of strong feelings about. So this one was made very much with the intent of digging back into something that was very personal for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOn whether he has any plans for Knives Out 4, Johnson smiled. \u201cI got nothing. If you have anything, I\u2019ll take it. I think it\u2019s good to totally empty the well and then start from scratch on the next one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHe continued, lauding Craig\u2019s talent: \u201cAs long as Daniel and I have fun doing it and he wants to do them, as long as audiences like them, and also as long as we can keep challenging ourselves and coming up with something that\u2019s genuinely new.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOscar-winning star Close went into detail about what made Johnson\u2019s script stand out from others she\u2019s read. \u201cHe\u2019s a great writer, and he\u2019s a wonderful director, and he knows how to cast. I mean, those three elements,\u201d the star told THR. \u201cHe has incredible production people that he\u2019s worked with. So the DP, the costumer, they all count and they all have huge respect for each other. It\u2019s a respectful, fun, intelligent experience, but we had a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMcCormack, playing a failed politician turned YouTuber in Wake Up Dead Man, also elaborated on learning from Johnson\u2019s superstar ensemble. \u201cI think every job you get, you get a chance to witness how people work and and you get to just learn from people, and particularly like Glenn [Close] or Josh Brolin, these people have been working for years, so that\u2019s always a learning curve,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I think the biggest thing I learned is just how much an environment that\u2019s set the tone can really help you, as an actor, thrive. Ryan and Daniel have done an amazing job of just making this the most welcoming experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI know for Rian, this is his most personal of the three,\u201d continued McCormack. \u201cI think that feels special too, that I get to be a part of one that very much means a lot to him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/wake-up-dead-man-a-knives-out-mystery\/\" id=\"auto-tag_wake-up-dead-man-a-knives-out-mystery_1\" data-tag=\"wake-up-dead-man-a-knives-out-mystery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery<\/a> had its world premiere at the Toronto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/international\/\" id=\"auto-tag_international_1\" data-tag=\"international\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International<\/a> Film Festival last month. THR\u2018s chief film critic David Rooney highlighted O\u2019Connor as a scene-stealer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/wake-up-dead-man-a-knives-out-mystery-daniel-craig-1236363835\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in his take on the murder mystery<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/bfi-london-film-festival-2025\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bfi-london-film-festival-2025_1\" data-tag=\"bfi-london-film-festival-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BFI London Film Festival 2025<\/a> runs Oct. 8-19 with a star-studded lineup of premieres.
