The health of basically all the members of the British royal family has been scrutinized as of late. King Charles<\/a> is not that young anymore, and he\u2019s still battling cancer. Queen Camilla<\/a> is around his age. And Kate Middleton just battled cancer last year, so it\u2019s no wonder people are interested in how she\u2019s doing. That\u2019s perhaps why, every time there\u2019s an update about any of them, people are really paying attention.<\/p>\n

The latest sad update, however, doesn\u2019t have anything to do with the health of anyone in the British royal family, but someone Queen Camilla was close to. The Queen<\/a> posted a tribute to her close friend Dame Jilly Cooper, who passed away at 88 during a fall. The two women were close friends, sharing a love for both literature and dogs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was deeply saddened to learn of Dame Jilly\u2019s death last night,\u201d Camilla said in a statement<\/a>. \u201cVery few writers get to be a legend in their own lifetime, but Jilly was one, creating a whole new genre of literature and making it her own through a career that spanned over five decades.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Queen and Dame Jilly Cooper recently saw each other at The Queen\u2019s Reading Room Festival in September. \u201cIn person, she was a wonderfully witty and compassionate friend to me and so many \u2013 and it was a particular pleasure to see her at my Queen\u2019s Reading Room Festival, where she was, as ever, a star of the show,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cI join my husband The King in sending our thoughts and sympathies to all her family. And may her hereafter be filled with impossibly handsome men and devoted dogs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ironically, Cooper\u2019s famous hero, Rupert Campbell Black, was reportedly partly based on Queen Camilla\u2019s ex-husband,\u00a0Andrew Parker Bowles<\/a>. Whether that ever came up between the two or not, Cooper also reminisced on their friendship, telling MailOnline: \u201cWe chatted about how much we love each other. I\u2019ve been very lucky\u2026 We\u2019ve known each other a long time. We live near each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

This sad news comes after the King recently discussed the perils of aging. During a visit to the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Smethwick, the\u00a0BBC<\/a>\u00a0reported that after a woman remarked to the King that she was \u201cwearing out,\u201d\u00a0King Charles<\/a>\u00a0responded: \u201cThat\u2019s the terrible thing I\u2019m discovering. Bits don\u2019t work so well when you get past 70.\u201d<\/p>\n

King Charles\u2019 cancer is reportedly not curable, but it is the kind of cancer that can be managed. Writer and associate editor of the\u00a0Daily Telegraph<\/a>, Camilla Tominey, recently said. \u201cThe talk now is that he may die \u2018with\u2019 cancer, but not \u2018of\u2019 cancer following a rigorous treatment program.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the King\u2019s health is reportedly also getting worse. RadarOnline<\/a>\u00a0recently reported about Charles, \u201cHe is now shuffling around with a cane \u2013 and hitting the bottle, and in particular whisky, to numb the pain and despair he feels,\u201d adding that \u201chis health has deteriorated significantly in recent months.\u201d<\/p>\n

Age catches up to us all, even the royals.<\/p>\n
