It is part of the US Navy\u2019s\u00a0SPY-6 family of radars\u00a0that performs air and missile defense on seven classes of ships.<\/p>\n<p>The contract, which would also include comprehensive support and services to adapt the radar to the ship\u2019s design, will make\u00a0Germany\u00a0the first international customer for SPY-6.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGermany\u2019s\u00a0selection of SPY-6 reaffirms the global confidence in the radar\u2019s advanced capabilities and its critical role in enhancing naval defense,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>Barbara Borgonovi<\/strong>, president of Naval Power at Raytheon. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIntegrating the radar on F127 frigates will provide the German Navy with a multi-mission solution that enables faster and more informed decision-making at sea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>SPY-6 is one of several radar programs designed and manufactured at Raytheon\u2019s Radar Development Facility in\u00a0Andover, Mass., a 30,000-square-foot site supporting the production of diverse types of radars. <\/p>\n<p>Recently, Raytheon and the US Navy completed the first live test of the AN\/SPY-6(V)4 radar in a maritime environment. The milestone was achieved during recent testing at the Advanced Radar Detection Laboratory located at the Pacific Missile Range Facility in\u00a0Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p>During multiple tests over open water, the radar successfully tracked air and surface targets under various conditions.<\/p>\n<p>In December last year, the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag approved the construction of new\u00a0Type F127 air defense frigates\u00a0for the German Navy. German shipbuilder thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) will play a leading role in the development and production.
