Liverpool\u2019s expectations over the summer were higher than ever before. <\/strong><\/p>\n

When Arne Slot<\/a> first came in, the Reds were under less pressure to perform as they were in the midst of a transition period, meaning they could play fairly freely.<\/p>\n

But after winning the league rather comfortably, and after spending almost \u00a3450m in the summer, many believe that the only option for Liverpool<\/a> is to now win it again.<\/p>\n

They started off well by winning their first five matches, but back-to-back defeats in the league has thrown a spanner in the works.<\/p>\n

There are plenty of reasons for this sudden downturn in form, but Slot certainly needs to work it out over the international break so they are ready to face Manchester United.<\/p>\n

Danny Murphy<\/a>, though, thinks there is one obvious problem that has caused it all, with the former Red admitting he got his expectations very wrong.<\/p>\n

An important thing to do while you are at the top is to build upon the team to ensure you give yourself the best possible chance of staying there. <\/p>\n

This is exactly what Liverpool and Slot did, with plenty of new signings coming through the door to take the squad to the next level.<\/p>\n

However, they also sold a fair few players, quite important ones too, with Murphy believing that all this change has not done the Reds the world of good.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think I underestimated the amount of changes having the impact they\u2019d have,\u201d he told talkSPORT<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cToo many of them have not hit the straps. Too many of them have, you know, not done enough or done as well as I thought they would.\u201d<\/p>\n

Out of all the new signings, it has only really been Hugo Ekitike<\/a> who has come in and hit the ground running, with the others struggling for form.<\/p>\n

Florian Wirtz<\/a> has perhaps been the biggest disappointment of all, with the \u00a3116m not living up to expectations just yet. <\/p>\n

Things will start to click for Liverpool soon<\/p>\n

It has been clear in games this season that Liverpool are capable of playing really good football with the team they have, as shown in the first-halves against Everton and Atletico Madrid.<\/p>\n

However, they have not quite found the consistency to see games out comfortably, something that will come with time.<\/p>\n

As well as this, the new signings are still adjusting to their surroundings and teammates, meaning once they all find an understanding, it should click into gear fairly quickly.<\/p>\n

Of course, rival fans do not want to give Liverpool time and fans may start to get impatient, but as long as they stay in touching distance with Arsenal, then everything should be OK. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Liverpool\u2019s expectations over the summer were higher than ever before.
