{"id":48599,"date":"2025-04-25T05:53:19","date_gmt":"2025-04-25T05:53:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/48599\/"},"modified":"2025-04-25T05:53:19","modified_gmt":"2025-04-25T05:53:19","slug":"germany-onshore-cable-route-preps-begin-for-first-energy-link-to-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/48599\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany: Onshore cable route preps begin for first energy link to UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Siemens Energy has completed the piling works for the new converter station on the German side of what will be the first direct energy link between the UK and Germany.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"401\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Germany-Onshore-cable-route-preps-begin-for-first-energy-link-to-UK-768x401.jpg\" class=\"attachment-medium_large size-medium_large\" alt=\"\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Source: NeuConnect<\/p>\n<p>With converter stations on the Isle of Grain in Kent and Wilhelmshaven in northern Germany, the 725-kilometer NeuConnect interconnector is said to create an\u00a0\u201cinvisible energy highway\u201d\u00a0capable of transferring 1.4 GW of electricity, enough to power 1.5 million homes, in either direction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Construction work at the UK site on the Isle of Grain\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/work-starts-on-first-ever-uk-germany-energy-link\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">began in the summer of 2023<\/a>, with construction in Germany\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/germany-construction-begins-for-e2-8-billion-first-ever-energy-link-to-uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">following in May 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2024, Italian cabling giant Prysmian Group\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/major-milestone-for-uk-germany-subsea-link-as-first-cabling-stage-wraps-up-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">completed<\/a>\u00a0the interconnector\u2019s first phase of cabling works in the UK waters.<\/p>\n<p>It was reported some six days ago that NeuConnect\u2019s onshore construction works in Germany had reached a key milestone with piling works for the new converter station near Wilhelmshaven completed by main contractor Siemens Energy. <\/p>\n<p>The German converter station superstructure will be built on marshland, so piling works are needed to further stabilise the foundations, and a total of 1,800 piles have been drilled and set.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to this, preparations along the onshore cable route in Germany have also started, with welding and horizontal directional drilling works now underway.<\/p>\n<p>NeuConnect is expected to be operational by 2028.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Siemens Energy has completed the piling works for the new converter station on the German side of what&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":48600,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5310],"tags":[2000,299,1824,26400,26401],"class_list":{"0":"post-48599","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-germany","8":"tag-eu","9":"tag-europe","10":"tag-germany","11":"tag-neuconnect","12":"tag-siemens-energy"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/114397053381296306","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/48599","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=48599"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/48599\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/48600"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=48599"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=48599"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=48599"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
