The Woodlands Children\u2019s Museum presents its biannual Children\u2019s Book Week celebration from November 4th \u2013 November 7th, featuring an array of events and activities designed to promote joy of reading. This initiative, established in 1919, holds the distinction of being the longest-running national literacy campaign in the United States. Throughout the country schools, museums, bookstores, and libraries host biannual events, unified by the conviction that literacy and children\u2019s literature can profoundly transform lives.<\/p>\n

Angela Colton, Executive Director of The Woodlands Children\u2019s Museum, shares that \u201cthe museum supports reading, rhyming, singing, and talking as the basic building blocks for learning language. Because of this, we\u2019re excited to offer a week of special events. Children\u2019s Book Week is designed to help families connect with each other and enjoy the rewarding experience of books.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tuesday, November 4, at 9:30am<\/strong> young guests are invited to join in music and rhyming with a special Rhyme Time. At 11:00am get ready to boogie and move with Picture Book Boogie, an introduction to songs and creative movement activities that are based on popular children\u2019s picture books. Delight in a special visit from Peter Rabbit during both floor programs.<\/p>\n

Wednesday, November 5, from 9:30am-10:45am<\/strong> meet and read to a few adorable pups from Pets with a Mission. Then at 11:00am, enjoy the Houston Grand Opera\u2019s Storybook presentation of \u201cThe Snowy Day.\u201d The magic and wonder of winter\u2019s first snowfall is perfectly captured in Ezra Jack Keat\u2019s Caldecott Medal-winning picture book. At noon, children can interact with a Picture Book Bingo on stage.<\/p>\n

Thursday, November 6, at 11:00am<\/strong> Shadow Puppet Theatre presents an adaptation of \u201cThe Tale of Peter Rabbit\u201d by Beatrix Potter. This classic tale of a mischievous little bunny and his exciting adventures is a perfect way to celebrate Children\u2019s Book Week! Families are invited to meet Peter in person for DIY photos today at 10:30am, 11:30am, and 12:30pm.<\/p>\n

Friday, November 7, at 11:00am<\/strong> join us for an author visit with Joy Saxton, who will read from \u201cJoy and the Far Away Land.\u201d For our Children\u2019s Book Week finale, author Joy Saxton will be bringing along another one of her amazing books to read and sprinkling in some of her magic and puppet adventures. \u201cJoy and the Far Away Land\u201d shares Joy\u2019s amazing adventure to a far away land, where she meets a special friend and realizes how important it is for people around the world to love and understand one another. After the reading, Joy will be selling and signing her books until 12:15. Later that day, meet and pose for DIY photos with Peter Rabbit at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm.<\/p>\n

The week\u2019s events are included in the price of admission. Guests are encouraged to pre-purchase tickets at www.woodlandschildrensmuseum.org. Tickets are $9 for guests over one year old and museum members are free.<\/p>\n

The museum is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30am \u2013 2:00pm, Fridays 9:30am-4:00pm and Saturdays from 10:00am \u2013 5:00pm. The museum is closed on Sundays and Mondays.<\/p>\n
