Steven Gerrard will attempt to lure former England coach Steve Holland into his new-look Rangers<\/a> backroom team – IF he lands the job as gaffer.<\/p>\n

Gerrard is in London for talks with Ibrox chiefs Andrew Cavenagh, Paraag Marathe and Gretar Steinsson<\/a> about a sensational return to Glasgow.<\/p>\n

Rangers’ hierarchy have made the 45-year-old their prime candidate to replace sacked ex-boss Russell Martin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Those discussions are set to continue over the next 24 hours as Gerrard weighs up a second stint as manager.<\/p>\n

But if an agreement is reached to appoint the Liverpool<\/a> icon, Record Sport<\/strong> understands Gerrard will target Holland for a coaching role at Ibrox.<\/p>\n

The 55-year-old was Gareth Southgate’s number two with the Three Lions for eight years, helping them reach two European Championship finals.<\/p>\n

Holland, who previously worked at Chelsea, has been out of work since April this year when he was sacked by Japanese club Yokohama Marinos.<\/p>\n

But if a deal can be done for Gerrard to return to Rangers, he could end up at Ibrox.<\/p>\n

The Scouser revealed on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast in midweek that if he goes back into management he wants new staff around him.<\/p>\n

He said: “I haven’t been ready because I haven’t got that (coaching) team set around me.<\/p>\n

“And the timing hasn’t been right. But if the right call comes my way, the right club, the right challenge – and I’ve got my people set which I’ll have at some point – I’ll take that challenge on because it’s in me.<\/p>\n

“I felt like I had that to a tee at Rangers (with Gary McAllister, Michael Beale and Tom Culshaw)<\/p>\n

“I’d love another go at some point. I want to change a few things and improve a few things then come back fresh with different people around me.<\/p>\n

“I’d love another couple of challenges and that’s what I’m working on in the background at the moment. A few different ideas, a few different people around me.”<\/p>\n

Another name linked with Rangers is legendary midfielder Steven Davis.<\/p>\n

He’s currently working alongside Northern Ireland national team boss Michael O’Neill and previously had a spell as Ibrox interim gaffer.<\/p>\n

But Record Sport understands that – at this stage – Davis HASN’T yet been approached about a role at his former club.<\/p>\n

Gerrard remains locked in talks with Rangers over the managerial vacancy after an exploratory meeting in London yesterday.<\/p>\n

He’s made it clear he wants to understand how the club’s new American owners work before committing to a return.<\/p>\n

Gerrard spent three and a half years in Govan previously, delivering the club’s 55th title in 2021, before leaving for Aston Villa.<\/p>\n
