A jubilee edition of Polish Film Days, the largest recurring showcase of Polish cinema in Ukraine, began in Kyiv and seven other cities, the Polish Institute said, adding the event continues despite Russia\u2019s ongoing invasion.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring war, culture matters for both countries. Through this festival, as Poland, we show solidarity with Ukraine and that we cannot be indifferent to what is happening here,\u201d said Jaros\u0142aw Godun, director of the Polish Institute in Kyiv.<\/p>\n

Beyond Kyiv, screenings are being held in Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia and Lviv, as well as in front-line or heavily shelled cities Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa and Kharkiv.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Godun said the festival is drawing strong interest. \u201cWe are getting information that people are buying tickets and want to watch Polish cinema. This is especially important because screenings are taking place in four frontline cities where the situation is very difficult,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Organizers emphasized safety measures. \u201cThe screening sites are safe. Some cinema halls are literally shelters, and most are very close to shelters,\u201d Godun said.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s lineup features recent Polish productions including \u201cLudzie\u201d by Maciej \u015alesicki and Filip Hillesland; \u201cKulej. Dwie strony medalu\u201d by Xawery \u017bu\u0142awski; \u201cBia\u0142a odwaga\u201d by Marcin Kosza\u0142ka; \u201cWr\u00f3bel\u201d by Tomasz G\u0105ssowski; \u201cRzeczy niezb\u0119dne\u201d by Kamila Tarabura; \u201cPod szarym niebem\u201d by Mary Tamkovich; \u201cDziewczyna z ig\u0142\u0105\u201d by Magnus von Horn; \u201cPod wulkanem\u201d by Damian Kocur; and \u201cChopin, Chopin!\u201d by Micha\u0142 Kwieci\u0144ski.<\/p>\n
