Two builders have made the grisly find of human bones in a plastic bag – just yards from a graveyard.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Construction workers were removing overgrowth with a digger to build a wooden fence when they found the bag of bones.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The builders, who do not wish to be named, told their firm of the discovery who in turn informed the police.<\/p>\n

South Yorkshire Police<\/a> were called to reports of human remains near St Wilfred’s Church by Church Lane in Doncaster at around 9.50am on October 6.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

After the force arrived at the scene and made extensive enquiries, it emerged there remains were bones dating back a ‘number of decades’.<\/p>\n

Police have confirmed the find is not being treated as suspicious, but are continuing to probe how the bones materialised in the plastic bag near the graveyard.<\/p>\n

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Cartwright said: ‘We are looking into the circumstances which resulted in these bones being found by contractors carrying out works in the area.<\/p>\n

‘We are acutely aware these remains are somebody’s loved one and we assure the local community that we are carrying out our enquiries with all of the sensitivity you would expect’.<\/p>\n

‘Early forensic analysis has been completed, and we believe no suspicious circumstances surround them.<\/p>\n

‘Once our enquiries are complete we will work closely with the church with a view to ensuring the remains are respectfully returned to a final resting place.’<\/p>\n
