\n A number of departures and arrival flights were held up on Thursday morning after a drone was discovered near the airport, The Herald has reported.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n Police were called to the scene to investigate the incident, a spokesperson for the airport confirmed.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n Operating a drone within the airport\u2019s flight restriction zone is a criminal offence which can lead up to five years in prison and an unlimited fine.\n<\/p>\n

\n An Edinburgh Airport spokesperson has urged drone operators to be aware of their own responsibilities and of the flight restriction zones in place at the airport.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n A spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport told The Herald: \u201cFlights were held due to the presence of a drone within the exclusion zone, which police investigated.\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cIt is imperative that drone operators are aware of their responsibilities and are aware of the flight restriction zones and potential penalties.\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cThe safety of passengers and staff is always paramount.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\n A Police Scotland<\/a> spokesperson said: \u201cAround 11.10am on Thursday, 9 October, 2025, we received a report of a drone within restricted air space over Edinburgh Airport.\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cOfficers attended and a man was traced. He has been charged in connection, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.\n<\/p>\n
