Opening November 13 at 541 West 24th Street, the show marks Koons\u2019s first dedicated presentation of his\u00a0\u201cPorcelain\u201d\u00a0works\u2014new and recent sculptures and paintings that trace the continuity of beauty and mythology across centuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tKoons was among Gagosian\u2019s marquee artists for nearly two decades before leaving that gallery, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/david-zwirner\/\" id=\"auto-tag_david-zwirner\" data-tag=\"david-zwirner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David Zwirner<\/a>, in 2021 to join <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/pace\/\" id=\"auto-tag_pace\" data-tag=\"pace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pace<\/a>. His move to Pace was framed at the time as a bid to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/art-news\/news\/jeff-koons-pace-gallery-departs-gagosian-david-zwirner-1234590935\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">focus on new work and production models,<\/a>\u00a0but no full-scale New York exhibition followed. In 2024,\u00a0Artnet News\u00a0columnist Kenny Schachter wrote that a new body of porcelain-inspired sculptures\u2014ambitious even by Koons\u2019s standards\u2014pushed the gallery into\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.artnet.com\/market\/kenny-schachter-koons-lvmh-crypto-hack-2553293\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">uncomfortable financial territory<\/a>. Pace had, according to Schachter, brought on outside investors and sunk tens of millions into fabrication before the project stalled over cost overruns. When funding dried up, Koons left the gallery soon after.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHis critical and commercial standing has cooled in recent years. Although\u00a0Rabbit\u00a0(1986) still holds the record for the most expensive work sold by a living artist, his sales have slowed, and public attention has waned. Still,\u00a0Artnet News\u00a0reported last year that several well-connected collectors and dealers have been quietly working to help revive his market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe\u00a0\u201cPorcelain\u201d\u00a0sculptures, modeled on 18th- to early-20th-century figurines, depict mythological figures like Diana and Venus alongside animals and lovers in mirror-polished stainless steel coated with transparent color.
