Community leaders and councillors joined that appeal, and urged people to attend a public meeting next week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">The Government\u2019s new <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/hartcliffe-named-20m-trailblazer-neighbourhood-10257136\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"\u00a35 billion \u2018Pride in Place\u2019 schemeLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a35 billion \u2018Pride in Place\u2019 scheme<\/a> will see 169 areas receive \u00a32 million every year for a decade, and 11 of those areas are in the South West, including the Bournville estate in Weston-super-Mare, Twerton in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bath-and-north-east-somerset\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bath<\/a>, two areas of Swindon and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/hartcliffe\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Hartcliffe<\/a> in South Bristol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">So Communities Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh came to Hartcliffe and said she was there not to tell people how the money would be spent, but to tell them they had to get organised and decide for themselves how that sort of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/hartcliffe-named-20m-trailblazer-neighbourhood-10257136\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"long-term investmentLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">long-term investment<\/a> would be best used in the community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">&#8220;Get involved. We saying &#8216;over to you&#8217;,&#8221; she told Bristol Live during a stop at Hartcliffe Community Centre. &#8220;This is a chance to get involved, to grip it, to decide the things that you want and fundamentally to have the money to make it happen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">&#8220;Government has never done this before at this scale like this. I think it&#8217;s a massive opportunity to prove the model right, because if we get it right here, we can do it in place after place after place,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">A Pride in Place neighbourhood board is to be set up, and the minister held a round-table discussion with local councillors, organisations and community leaders to kick things off, but said everyone in Hartcliffe should get involved to make sure that the decisions aren\u2019t \u2018made for them but by them\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">\u201cWe\u2019re bringing the community together to say: \u2018What&#8217;s the place that we want? What are the changes that we want in our area? And then they decide, and then they make that investment, not just for one year, not for two years, but for over a ten-year period. And that, if we get it right, is an absolute game changer,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">&#8220;We&#8217;re trying to reach out to the community to ask who wants to get involved. And if we do that well, it&#8217;s not just the people who&#8217;ve always been involved, but reaching out into parts of the community for people who, candidly, they don&#8217;t believe that things will change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">&#8220;They&#8217;re quite cynical and sceptical about institutions and sceptical about politics. And actually, they&#8217;re the ones that we need around the table so that they can tell us: &#8216;This is what we want to see in this area, this is what&#8217;s working&#8217;. So we&#8217;ve set the scope really, really broad, because we want to create the space for people to figure out what works in our area, and then to be able to invest in that,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">One of those championing more community involvement is local city councillor Kerry Bailes, who is Hartcliffe born-and-bred. She is pictured here at the launch of the Pride In Place project which will decide how to invest \u00a320m of Government money in Hartcliffe over the next ten years(Image: Bristol Post)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">The area covered by the Pride in Place grant includes areas of Hartcliffe that are in the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/hengrove\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Hengrove<\/a> and Whitchurch Park ward, represented by Lib Dem councillors Tim Kent and Sarah Classick, who were both part of the minister\u2019s round table too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">\u201cSuccess at the end of this will look like something that means the people of Hartcliffe are able to access all the opportunities, for jobs and education, that everyone else in Bristol can,\u201d said Cllr Kent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">\u201cIt\u2019s got to be the case that this happens with the people in the community, rather than to them. It\u2019s got to be a very collaborative process,\u201d added Cllr Classick.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">Ali Dale, the CEO of Heart of BS13 Community, a charity that runs the city farm and other projects around Hartcliffe, said he hoped that when the ten years of \u00a32 million a year is over, it\u2019s only the start of something. \u201cI hope in 2035 we\u2019re talking about a community that feels the money has been spent on the things they wanted it spent on.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">\u201cLots of South Bristol feels left behind at points and I think it\u2019s an opportunity to say \u2018we\u2019re here, we\u2019ve got loads of ideas, the community is really strong, give us the money and we\u2019ll make something happen with it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1760069121_776_0_BRI_PG_091025Fahnbulleh-431.jpg\" alt=\"Communities minister Miatta Fahnbulleh MP  visits Hartcliffe to talk to the community about the \u00a320m Govt funding\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Communities minister Miatta Fahnbulleh MP  visits Hartcliffe to talk to the community about the \u00a320m Govt funding(Image: PAUL GILLIS \/ Reach PLC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">\u201cI hope that it improves the quality of life for people, but that could be parks, that could be spaces to meet, community connections, that could be education, opportunities, employment, there\u2019s all sorts of things it could be.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"bristolpost\">&#8220;I think there\u2019s a risk that the money sounds like a big sum, but spread it over ten years and then pick all these broad topics and is it really going to make a difference?
